  • What is the weirdest gift you've bought this season?

    I'm majorly second-guessing myself.

My dad and his wife recently bought a second home that they are slowly moving into with the idea that they will sell their first home. It has a lot of land and this summer my Dad did a lot of gardening. They had more veggies than they knew what to do with and they weren't even able to give it all away. They were thrilled.

I thought and thought about what to buy him and finally settled on a survivalist's guide to canning/drying stuff from your garden. In adddition, i bough him a canning pot with all that it needed, and a dehydrator.

My thinking is that it would be fun for him to can/dehydrate things from his garden.

Now? Ugh. I have major regret. I'm afraid he'll think it's stupid!

No, that totally rocks! If they're not already canning, they are probably thinking about it for next year. And I for one would love a dehydrator! Especially in those climates where you're getting outrageous amounts of squash and tomatoes...yum.

Love my dehydrator...and would love it if someone gave me the canning stuff. I do not have it because it is somewhat of an investment.

I do not have much weird for this year. It is mostly needed items. Bought my mom a nice shower bench along with the usual clothes. I guess that is kind of an odd gift but it is something she has needed but did not want to spend the cash on.

Gave DH survivalist training because dude has been wanting to do that...you know, because we may need to survive in the wilderness some day.
Seriously though, since he is Mr. travel medicine, I guess I can see why he might be interested. That one could be counted as weird.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

Seriously. I feel so much better reading your comments! I also gave him a survivalist guide to canning/dehydrating.

My dad is sort of into the whole survivalist thing.

Thanks for making me feel better!

Well, in that case, I bet he will love your gift.

                    That's great!

My dad/stepmom garden. Last year I gave them some heirloom seeds so they could grow heirloom veggies. Of course my stepmom is a bitch so she made a snide comment and tossed them to the side...but I think some people would like it.
