  • Color of your hair

So... While I usually never ask "permission" I decided to ask hubby if I could dye my hair. I've only ever dyed it twice. I actually wanted to go purple or blonde. He's response was " You're going to be a Dr's wife! You should dye it brown or a natural color"

Is it frowned upon? Or am I being crazy or is he being crazy?

Do what you want. Go purple!! I'm a brunette. I have a slight touch of red. When I dye, I usually go red. I've wanted a blue streak, but I'm a chicken shit.

My hair has a slight touch of red too and more noticeable in the sun

I read in another post you were at universal studios! Were you visiting? Or do to live in the area?

Mine is naturally a dark blonde, and I have it highlighted. I'm not a fan of the bright colors, personally, but I generally keep a more professional appearance, especially since I work full time.

That said, if you want to dye it blue, it shouldn't be up to him, it's your hair! Unless you regularly attend events with him at which he feels like you need to present a united professional front, I don't see why it matters.

Naturally light brown, dyed really really blonde. I wouldn't personally go purple, but my style is mostly preppy/conservative.

I have a female friend who's a physician who got a purple streak in her (blonde) hair. It was awesome. What decade is he in that he thinks "doctor's wife" has to mean "conservative"?

He is still in school! I figured I could do something like this before he graduates and I have to look a little more normal after that for whatever reason.

I'm also a SAHM so no work to worry about there

Say wha?! Being a dawkter's wife dictates your HAIR? I...don't know if he realizes this, maybe they don't cover this thoroughly in med school, but hair GROWS. By the time he's an elite specialist going to all the best galas in town and stocking your closet with evening gowns so that you can make presentable arm candy...your MS-3 haircut and color will no longer be a factor.

(FWIW, as a post-training fully-fledged dawkter's wife I rock my natural mousey brown, thankyouverymuch. Way too lazy for the upkeep on hair coloring. But if I wanted to go shocking pink, I damned well would. Especially since your location indicates the west coast...I'm pretty sure even the highest echelons of social circles embrace creativity and individuality out here.)

Ummm - we're well into attendinghood. What other rules/guidelines should I be following as a dawkters wife? . You need to ask him now, and clear this up before he finishes school.

Yup. Where's my spittoon? I kid. Gross.

But, seriously. No. Be yourself. Be authentic.

Heh. I actually meant "what decade" as in "is he living in the 1950s or something?" I agree with Deebs. Better get him to lay out all the "rules" that "Doctor's wives" are supposed to live by, so we can point out how most of us aren't actually following them!

Say whaaaat? I am a fully fledged attending dawkters wife/state medical association alliance board member and I do not give a rats ass about keeping up the stereotype. Even my pool guy is not hawt...dude has a keg instead of a sixpack.

I say go for some cool hair color. I would but I can't do anything other than a dark blonde/light brown...otherwise my gray will show!
