  • Sometimes it's fun!

My nieces made a video of questions to ask Dr. J for their Brownie first aid badge. It's so cute! Sometimes it's fun having a doctor in the family, counteracting some of the crap. I remember when my dad used to bring a skeleton to our classes in school growing up, and we all got to ask questions. I have to imagine now how ridiculous some of our questions were to a colon and rectal surgeon.

I know this is supposed to be debatable, but is it only my DH that would never have time to go to the kid's school? He did a little interaction as a resident, but since becoming an academic attending, it's impossible for him to show up for school things during the day. OR schedules rule his life and he's always scheduled many months out.

Maybe it's the nature of his work being cancer care; no one can be put off and he's always squeezing someone in.

Or maybe he's just a jerk about fatherly stuff... Lol

It might be the surgeon angle. Lol. That being said, dh could eek out the time during the day, but he would never show up during school to talk about doctor stuff because he'd find it too ... boring.

DH's schedule is all over the place. It's not predictable, but there are some (post-call) days he's done before noon, so if a teacher were flexible, he could go. Of course, like T, he probably wouldn't want to!

Ha, yeah, our day care has been asking parents to come do a show-and-tell about their jobs. The center is affiliated with the university, so about half the kids are doctors' kids. So far I haven't heard of a single doctor making it to circle time.

Not to be negative. It can be fun for kids. Mine love getting to see the helicopter when we go visit on call nights. That's our biggest perk right now.

I'm glad my DH isn't the only one...
"Why would I want to do that if I take a day off?" 😌

DD's class is about to do a study in careers and invited parents to come speak. I told DH, and he got all excited, about to schedule the helicopter to come in. Then, I gave him the dates - any day between May 4-15. He doesn't have a single day off in there, except a Sunday. I kind of figured...😞
