  • Poor Alex

He got an iPhone 5 from his Kung fu teacher 2 months ago as payment for teaching. You've never seen a happier 16 year old.

Yesterday started the official Sartell 10 day NERF wars. He went out to play and his beloved phone fell out of his pocket. He looked for hours for it.

I feel so bad for him. He had even customized his otterbox in a shop class to have Zelda markings on it.

They tried to use whatever app or program he had to recover it but his phone had powered down and it wouldn't work.

        Poor Alex

My daughter's iPod was stolen from her bag at the beach last year. She knew who took it by using her find my phone apps and everything. We found the girl, tracked her down, contacted police, files a police report, and talked to the girls boyfriend and her father. At the end of it all she never admitted to having the iPod, the dad was having issues with her (she was a foster kid with lots of problems) and he was apologetic but there was nothing to be done.

She lied, and it became a cautionary tale.

I know a couple of times when people do give back the stolen device, but most people are savvy enough to lie and just power it down and take it over.

My dd13 left her ipod on a ride at Disney, and knew it so waited at the exit for someone to bring it out. She saw a little kid carrying it, and went up to her and told her that she had her phone. The kid's dad told her that it was his kids' phone (finders keepers). Dd said- that's my phone, my case, and the home screen picture is of my friend (I think her friend was even with her). The dad thought maybe she'd make a scene, and there are Disney CMs all over to "help" clear up a situation like that, so he said, "whatever" and gave it back to Dd and walked off. Morale of the story: people suck and if you lose control of your electronic device then chances are good it's gone forever.

I'm guessing he didn't have the expensive monthly insurance from the phone company that covers stolen goods.

He just got so lucky. One of his friends had a broken (screen) 5s from verizon. He sold it to Alex for $50. Alex's best friend has a screen repair kit. They already ordered the new screen to repair it. In the meantime, it is activated and functioning!

Even better, Andrew's iPhone 4 (his baby) broke. Alex was able to buy a perfect iPhone 4 from a friend for $50. It's AT&T and we're going to get his SIM card and at as you go card today.

All iPhone problems are fixed for now. (Knocks on wood)

Oh. Alex ended up repairing his own screen too. Yay Alex! Now he is going to repair my co-worker's screen.
