• Strange changes.

I was born of Wisconsin parents. So I was brought up that every meal had red meat. Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Meals with meat were about 12 times a week.
I never really thought about it until I got married. She's Catholic, so so on lent she explained she couldn't eat meat. I said; "No problem, I'll make duck"

Anyway. My favorite meal has ALWAYS been a steak. Once I could afford it about three to four nights a week.
Never got tired of it. I spent 2 years at cooking school and learned to cook. I can make a steak better than almost any steak place.
When I worked in Japan the cost was astronomical. I still ate steak.

About four months ago I quit craving steak. I just didn't want it anymore. A few times I just bought it anyway figuring the craving would come back.
Nothing.
I asked Doctor Wife about it and she said nothing.
Still it bothered me, 30 years straight of craving it then suddenly didnt even like it.
Weird. To me it was like waking up and suddenly being left handed.

Still bothers me when I think about it.

Now Father's day is coming up. My parents are coming into town and I was planning to take my Dad to a nice steak house.
But my mother informed me that about four months ago my father ceased liking steaks.

WTF? Did the planet change rotation in February?
Strange. Especially since I haven't seen my parents since Christmas.
Anyone ever hear of this or is it just a bizarre coincidence?

Honestly? Around that same time my sister (also in Wisco) stopped eating meat because it made her feel gross.

I enjoy steak occasionally but my body has started to protest red meat.
I can't explain your new(ish) dislike. Strange....

I stopped liking coffee a year ago. This was after being a total addict (pots a day) for a long time. It is like my taste buds changed. I also thought it was really weird.

I went on a probiotic recently for a few months and my tastes seemed to align again to what I used to like. Also weird, but it's something to consider.

My initial thought: are you pregnant? Just kidding!! (I am 18-weeks preggo and I cannot BEAR the smell of chicken. In any form. This always happens when I'm pregnant. Just thinking about chicken makes me want to dry heave.)

When I turned thirty or so, my tastes changed as well.

I spent 21 years hating tomatoes, then suddenly one day I started loving them. Haven't looked back since!

I used to smoke (cigarettes, I know, bad, sorry) and despite having an addictive personality and a 2 pack/week habit for 10 years, one day it just seemed gross. I wasn't trying to quit, didn't want to quit, and tried to pick it back up a couple times, but I've found it revolting ever since. My theory was that my body was trying to tell me something. I don't know how to explain, but sometimes tastes can change overnight.

Haha, that was my first thought too! Except I'm not pregnant. That I know of.

Sorry. Threadjack: baby is not mine/my husband's. I am the gestational surrogate for my sister and her husband's embryo. Long, sad story of many pregnancy losses by my sister that brought us to this place.

But, regardless of whose baby it is...cravings are par for the course! Didn't get any breaks on that!

I crave steak when I'm pregnant. I think because I need the extra iron.
My first thought was if you've had your iron levels checked recently. There are conditions that cause high levels of iron. It's a long shot but I would look a little further into huge changes in appetite like that.

GrayMatterWife didn't want it to have its own thread earlier. She's always welcome to, of course. We support her in whatever she wants to do.
