Most insurance companies are now denying to pay for neuropsych evals unless you have epilepsy or have had a concussion. My brother was just at the doctor and may have a mass in his abdomen and in his thyroid. Deductible? Nearly $5000. If he needs treatment, that will mean almost $10,000 for him in a matter of a couple of months.

Really, the insurance companies are the real reason health care is so freaking expensive.

But United may pull out of the exchanges because the company isn't making "enough" of a profit.

Something more about United. I know someone who is a nurse practitioner for United. She does home visits that are physicals. I don't understand exactly why but it has something to do with Medicare regulating people being seen once a year or something. Her findings are compared with the physician's findings and if she thinks a dx is different than the docs, the doc does get a letter.

Here's the kicker. United pays her > 100k. For meeting pt number goals, the company is taking a large group of NP's to Hawaii. Also, every patient is given a $25 gift card when they are seen as well as a token blanket as a gift. But doctors are driving up the cost of healthcare.

This has been a real problem for me. I have had patients call and demand a physical, even though they just had one, just to get the effing gift card. I actually had one lady leave the practice because I wouldn't label her office visit an annual H&P well visit

Every time we switch insurance co's the coverage gets worse. I get the craziest bills from our doctor visits these days, nickel and diming us for what the insurance won't pay. Medicine in the US has taken five steps back. I wonder if Hillary still has her giant plan in the closet somewhere?

This is kind of a local thing here because just across the river, Kentucky voted for a Governor who swore to remove Kentucky's version of Obamacare which benefits some of the most impoverished individuals in Appalachia. I just don't understand why the f*** the citizens would let this happen. . It's better to have tens of thousands of people uninsured and not accessing health care. Look, the program has huge gaping issues, but basically we're condemning a bunch of people to poor health, poverty, and potential death. Does not compute.

Doesn't Medicaid cover the most impoverished? All Obamacare has done here is make healthcare too expensive for many, many people. I only know 1 person who has benefitted. I know many people who have had their insurance premiums go up drastically, have been forced to change insurers and doctors more than once ... A friend of mine in TX has to drive over an hour 1 way to her oncologist because her ACA plan won't cover any local oncologists/hospital. Obamacare is a joke. We need something else.

Unless you meant me, you know more than one person who has benefitted. I'm uninsurable on my own given my "pre-existing conditions", and I'm currently self-employed, and so is DH. The *only* way I can get health insurance is thanks to the aca.

No, that makes two. Unfortunately, I deal with many people every day through my job who have been harmed.

As a disclaimer, I believe access to healthcare is s basic human right. But the ACA got it wrong for a lot of people.

I think the issues may be state specific.

Yes, the premiums are too high. But I manage individual point of service plans and the coverage is actually pretty good with a robust network.
