I heard it was weeks, but found an NPR article saying just 5 days. But 5 days...blah.

LOL! I just can't!! I am with Deebs. I took a shower yesterday evening - to get warm. This morning, I had to take one to get going...did not wash hair but I do love me some fresh soap smell. I use all natural soaps and lather myself up with lotion because my skin is so dry that it cannot handle my shower habit otherwise.

I don't know though about SIL. I just remember being so uber conscious about looking neat/clean/put together at that age. I figured she might change once she had to share a room in college...figured her roommate might call her out on it. That is why I am thinking the no bathing is the new thing (or what was old is new again ). As she was leaving, she did leave a cloud of perfume.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

I shower every day, but haven't used soap since I was in elementary school. My derm at the time told me that it was causing my excema flare ups and I haven't had excema since.

See, for me it was dorm living that squelched my urge to shower. The whole thing of having to walk down the hall, especially once I was in a co-ed dorm, just wasn't always appealing. Also, I grew up in Alaska so A) wet hair SUCKED in winter and B) you didn't work up a sweat on a regular basis -- and if you did there were plenty of layers between you and the public, LOL.

I think I was a pretty gross teen, to be honest. I swear, I've mostly switched around -- I shower near-daily now, and I'm pretty sure I don't stink most of the time.

I do think there's more of a trend to shower less and have the dirty look for hair right in the younger set right now. I can't do it, I shower daily or every other day, and if I don't shower for a day I feel really greasy and it's usually on days when I don't have to go anywhere or be seen by civilized people. I do get really dry skin though, so I should probably cut down on the soap. My question is though, for those of you who don't use soap, do you use antiperspirant/deodorant? Because that stuff does not come off without soap. I've been in situations where I didn't have a loofah, body wash, etc. while traveling and I remember feeling like I had nasty deodorant buildup - after just a day. I can't imagine going long without at least using soap for things like that. I would feel like I had a year's worth of sweat and deodorant built up under my arms.

No I actually don't use deodorant...well except at the end of pregnancy when I was just a sweaty mess all the time but otherwise I haven't needed to

I do use deodorant, but I shave my pits every day with a little bit of body wash (well, sometimes I use the body wash, sometimes I just run the razor over quickly), and I guess that helps remove it?

I use deodorant too and also have to shave my pits every day, so I think that does it. I also use a natural exfoliating scrub meant for the face on my underarms once a week. I haven't noticed any buildup.

Those of you who don't seem to sweat/have B.O./get the greasy look, I am in awe.

DH doesn't have to use deodorant, but does shower every morning.
I have to shower everyday, but usually don't wash my hair on days that I don't work out. It gets super dry otherwise.

We only use cetaphil now, but I can't not use something to clean with. Consider me stinky. 😄

I've noticed a range (*cough, cough*) of odors in the high school girls that board at our school. They have community showers, early mornings coupled with late nights of studying and some skip their showers too often. Interestingly, it's the American students, not the international students that skip their showers once too many times. I don't think skipping a shower is the new norm, but some kids are completely unaware of their aromas. They're nose blind. It's such a delicate subject though. As a nurse you're put in that position sometimes. Teachers request that you talk to the student. Uncomfortable. I've had to call parents before. Even more uncomfortable. Honestly, for a short term house guest I wouldn't say anything. I think it's maturity and self awareness issues. My youngest children would skip their showers and brushing their teeth eternally if there were no negative consequences or I didn't make them. Who wants to stop playing? The other group I've noticed with poor teen hygiene tends to be depressed or on drugs that depress their initiative to shower or self care.

Before I started working out so often, I showered every 2-3 days. I really shouldn't have done that, though. I'm another one whose hair has to be washed daily to not look greasy and dirty. Now I try to shower every day that I work out, or every other day if I don't. If I don't work out and I'm in a hurry, sometimes I will skip washing my hair.

Yea I was thinking she hasn't developed personal body habits yet. If her parents didn't teach her it could take several years (and MANY roommates) to figure out how often people normally shower. It's also highly probable that she's so sensitive she doesn't want to "impose" by using the shower. Sounds ridiculous but at that age some girls are afraid of inconveniencing their hosts.

I too lived in a disgusting dorm freshman year. It was also not uncommon to discover my suitemate and her boyfriend having sex while in there. Looking back my showering habits were at an all time low.

She lives in a swanky off campus brand new apartment with her very own private bathroom attached to her room. Last year she did live in the dorm but the habits did not start there. She began skipping showers in junior high. My MIL excused it as she having dry skin and it being so dry in their town. Now, she lives in a humid part of the state and has her own bathroom.

Like DH says, at leas she does not stink. I just find it odd to not shower for 4-5+ days...especially in the summer.
