...Ok, so we are a simple bunch.
Today, I am...was, washing windows. We have been up since early, and we have been watching the street in front of our house. We live in the middle of a school zone, on the downward side of a hill. This is a "major" street to connect to the interstate to head downtown. Everyday people blow through here going at least 40mph....it is still a residential neighborhood, speed limit is marked all over of 30mph. Anyway, I recently made a complaint to the city and they have since placed two motorcycle police officers across from our house in the early morning (when the school zone lights are flashing, speed limit 20mph=bigger tickets!) and then in the afternoon, when people are getting off work.
So, we have been watching and listening to the motorcycles speeding to catch all of them! Literally, I think that they could easily ticket enough people doing that every day to pay for the motorcycle, the officer, his training and then a raise!!

Today also is the "Drive for the Cure" here in Kansas City. We live about 4 miles from the local BMW dealership and they have every model of BMW to drive. For $5, you can place yourself---unaccompanied--in the seat of whatever model you want to drive for a nine mile round trip!! And the $ goes to a great cause!! I have $5.....unfortunately, five minutes to run down there is escaping me....don't think that they would want me to load up that 540i with two car seats and a couple kids, and DW won't be home till after the "Drive" is over....
So, since there are no more high speed chases till later, we are watching the parade of "beemers" and dreaming...Ok, I am dreaming, Drew is counting them and Colton is just screaming a lot.

    Oh well....

Good for you for requesting the police to hang out at the intersection. And good for the police for responding! We live by a 4 way stop (because of the elementary school on the corner) and it drives me CRAZY to see how many people blast through the stop sign. I've complained to a few officers over the years but nada -- maybe I need to be more formal about it.

Matt, if I lived near you, I'd watch your kids so you could take the BMW for a spin. That sounds like fun. Then we could take turns.

Well, I wasn't able to go. But that was Ok, it was still fun to watch.

Esther, yes, they had 2 of them going around all day! One of them had the new "M" powered motor. (inspired from the BMW flagship- M3, then the M5, now there is one in that little roadster....bet it feels like a rocket to drive!) Anyway, at the bottom of the hill is a stoplight, and you could always tell when it was coming up the hill! Many people out for the ride could have been ticketed if the timing had been right!!

Good for you, Matt. I hate it when people speed through residential zones...and especially through shool zones! We have a lot of new teen drivers in our neighborhood that make me really nervous.

Too bad about the beemers...I would have taken the kids and carseats down and done the drive, just to see the looks on the dealer's faces!
----'em if they can't take a joke! Tell them you're a doctor's wife!

Where in KC are you? That's Mike's home town and his parents still live in Overland Park on the Kansas side. In fact, we're going to be there in a couple of weeks to see them. 8O (Pray for me!)

But definitely take photos, becaue I really want to see the looks on their faces when you tell them you're a doctor's wife, Matt.

I live on a busy side street that "cuts" between two major traffic arteries to downtown. The up side is that it takes about 20 minutes for me to get anywhere in downtown Boston. The down side is the insane traffic! Trying to back out of my driveway is killer. We actually had a person get run over by a car a few months ago crossing on the crosswalk right in front of my house! There was a hit-and-run of a police officer in the exact same spot over the winter as well. So, now we have an officer who comes out about once a week and just waves over every speeder he can during afternoon rush hour. It helps a bit, but just a bit. It is insane.

As an aside (hijacking the thread a bit here) I have seen some incredibly rude and/or insane traffic behavior while living here but what I saw yesterday just takes the cake. I was in the Longwood Medical Area (Francis street if you're reading this, Angie) and a man walked out into the road just as the traffic closest to him had a green light. The car in front of me had to break hard not to hit the man. So, this man (the jaywalker) turns around and squirts his waterbottle into the face of the man driving the car that had to slam on the breaks! It was a beautiful day so the driver had his windows rolled down. As the jaywalker walked away on the opposing sidewalk he just started laughing. 8O The entire event was so surreal and such a wonderful example of a complete lack of civility. It takes quite a bit to stun me regarding traffic nowdays - but this took the cake because it was so, well, malicious!

sigh I'm going to make sure my windows are rolled up all the way when I'm driving in the congested areas of Boston from now on....

BTW Matt, I agree you should just take the kids to the dealership and drive a car!
