should implement what the rad does - automate dictation (something like med dragon speaking software?) it takes a bit of training on the software but once it's done, it might be ok..
my (it) experience is it's ok to be the last man standing - but in order to reach there, it'll be many yrs of pain.

Maybe the guys running the hospital should take 50% cuts and get rid of their executive assistants and see how easy it is to do their jobs.

The thing is, if everyone leaves, won't they realize pretty quickly that they have to stop treating them so poorly?

Apparently not. Everyone's left DrK's clinic and they still treat him like crap.

              Dropping salaries

They don't care. They're recruiting young docs coming out of residency who think earning 100k before taxes is a lot of money when you have 250k in loans. On one interview, a potential IM recruit was asked about student loan payments after he talked about being ~200k in debt. He said he thought he would be paying $400-500 a month in student loans over 10 years. The doc said "you mean 30?" and he said "10". He has an MD and thinks a 10-yr payment on 200k is $400. ? His wife looked at homes with a certain realtor here and I'm sure they weren't cheap.

I hope they come from money.

The new docs are screwed. Their lifestyles will be significantly reduced and the demands are high. Also, the retirement package being offered now leaves something to be desired when compared to what we got. The system is creating 2 classes of physician. They have to get rid of all of us old guys.

I made the mistake of bringing this article up with DH on his day off. He was tense for like an hour just thinking about someone trying to cut his salary in the future. Oops.

Dh is a mess over it. I've gone all crazy town. Last night we had card club and I got into an argument with a psychologist about it. She works part-time and is on salary because by her own admission she doesn't generate enough RVU's. She thinks the changes are great because we'll be " more like Mayo". I told her there already is a Mayo and that they pay a lot less. She said ""If that's true, why do people work there?" I mentioned the prestige associated with Mayo and told her that we don't have that. Her thing to me was that we would have lifestyle "paid vacation". I think I nearly attacked her. "They aren't offering a 10% paycut but you'll have paid vacation. They're saying work harder, work more, and here is less money. "

I literally had to send out a couple of apologies.

I am just not happy. Every other week there is more bad news. I'm watching this life here that I worked so hard to build just crumble. I hope I'm just being melodramatic.

...She thinks her family would be okay if they were looking a 15%, 30%, or 50% pay cut in the face? Seriously? I don't care what your financial planning looks like, that is effed up. Maybe the less established docs can leave town, but what about those with families? Kids in school? Those caring for elderly parents? Those with partially vested retirement plans? Wtf. This isn't make believe, this is real. If her life is such that her family could absorb that drastic of a cut and still carry on as usual (and without resentment), then I need her secrets, her trust fund, and her meds.

I don't know. Her girls are young. She doesn't have 2 in college and 1 on the way to college. They got family help to buy their house. We never had that.

She quickly turned it into a political thing and made wrong assumptions.

I think from her perspective, she earns little as a therapist. Her dh is the breadwinner. She isn't asking herself what would happen if his salary dropped by 15-30%.

As it is, we are making drastic changes financially in preparation of what is about to hit us. DH is preparing to apply for jobs knowing he will earn much less ... but saying he won't stay here and earn less after how they've treated him this last year.

                            😞

Tell her your socialist-leaning internet forum friend is aghast that she thinks people should tolerate such treatment. I do hope things turn around for y'all and that this is just temporary. It will change, and I do hope it changes for the better.

I think that a lot of people just feel like if a change doesn't effect them then they don't care ... especially if it supports their views. They can turn a blind eye to how decisions hurt others. In her eyes, doctors already earn enough and they should earn less (that went over well).

Her husband works in finance. Imagine if I had said that he earns too much and should take a 15-50% paycut? That would have gone over, right? Idk. It's all politics. Dr salaries are healthcare which morphs into feelings about Obamacare and then is a different beast. Or so it seemed.
