  • Summer Plans!

    What are your summer plans?

We are taking a vacation to the cabin the first week of July. It will be tricky because Thomas' partner is retiring. Thomas may have to drive back and forth between MN and WI.

We're working them out still but it should be a nice mix of busy and relaxed.

We have one week per month, June July and August, at our place in the mountains. My college reunion is in late June. We have made NO plans for that, and it's a really long drive immediately after we get back from the timeshare, but I want my kids to meet a couple of old friends and their kids, and see the college campus where DH and I met and were married. So he's requested it off, and we'll see how that works. Kids have two weeks of afternoon swim lessons in early July, and DS has a week of soccer camp in August -- DD might do it as well (she's still deciding.) That's about it!

DH is going to be working pretty much non-stop in June during the time we're not out of town. Hopefully July and August lighten up a bit, as he's requesting to work a minimum of shifts, and there should be a locums guy coming on (they're short-handed in June.)

I've got the kids in all sorts of camps and swimming lessons--probably too much.

Plan on hanging out at my moms 4th of July.

The big event of the summer is my brothers wedding in mid August, which coincides with some sweet freedom for me work-wise

We really wanted to make it to Destin this year, but it just didn't work out, so we might do another weekend in San Antonio at the place we went to a few weeks ago. Hyatt Wild Oaks Ranch. It's amazing for kids

I miss the summers when I refused to sign the kids up for anything and we just played all summer. Jammie days, hermit crab races, hamster husbandry, movies, Popsicles, swimming and no bedtime. Seriously those were awesome summers!

This summer we are currently loving having all six kiddos home for the time being. It will be short lived because DD22 will be starting grad school middle of June so we need to get her and her stuff to South Bend. Right before that is recital and then an out of town LAX tournament. Then getting DD14 to her ballet intensive in PA (anyone here close to Carlisle?), she'll be gone for 5 weeks. While we are doing that DS19 will be taking DS16 to a LAX tournament in Cincinnati (thank heavens for big brothers!), I think we then have a two week break with just summer camp stuff for DD7 and swim lessons for both little girls. Then it'll be back to South Bend, a LAX tournament in Chicago and then pick up in PA. That will give us about 10 days with 5 of the kiddos before DS19 goes back to school for RA training and then school starts up in early August. Phew!

While there are many more moving parts to family life as kids get older, and I do miss the carefree times of summer, there is also such great excitement watching your kids grow and dream and work hard to create a life for themselves. The carefree summers we spent just enjoying each other remind me to relish the crazy too.

Our plans are to survive. Baby C will have his surgery sometime around late July to early September, most likely. My sister is getting married August 28 in Florida on the beach, so we're planning to go to that as long as he's stable.

Seeing the in-laws over DHs break, moving during the same break, and starting school. Nothing too exciting, but really looking forward to it!

Camp for C every other week (to keep me sane). There's even one week when D gets to go too because there's a VBS that'll take her too.

Otherwise lots of pool time and playing with our neighbors. And then back to work 8/1

We're going to the beach for three days next week and having a pool party the week after. The rest of the summer will be filled with gardening, pool time, play dates for C and day trips. And of course we'll be busy getting ready for baby who is due late August! Really looking forward to this summer!

We're still waiting on DH's schedule past Memorial Day weekend. They haven't even decided who's working Memorial Day, so we weren't able to make plans for Monday... :gah:

DH has vacation next month (fortunately that's already scheduled). We're going to a timeshare exchange property in Ft. Lauderdale on the beach for 5 nights. I don't have high expectations, as a lot of these properties aren't well taken care of, but the kids will love the beach.

I didn't sign up the kids for full or half time at the preschool this year, but I have them in their drop-off program, where I can arrange to have them go if I call 24 hours in advance. I figure that'll give me a chance to go run or do errands some days, but I won't feel guilty for taking them out to do other things while still having to pay. A friend has season passes to Six Flags, and I think we'll get them for the kids and me so we can go with them. It's a 1.5 hour drive, but her kids love it, and I think mine will, too. We'll also have swim lessons, and I think there are a couple VBSes that both my kids can attend. Unfortunately I think most of them are at night. On the non-scheduled days that I'm not running, my gym has child care, so I'm hoping to get better about working out. I've been slacking with all this end of year stuff going on.

So ready to not be so busy for a couple months!

DH will hopefully start working by mid June. Just waiting for all the paperwork/privileges to go through. E is starting camp mwf 9-12 on June 6th. First time I will drop him off for anything. I just need to get through the first week. Fingers crossed it goes smoothly and he loves it. My parents, E and I are going to DC in July for my sister's birthday weekend. We might be going to Dallas too for my grandmother's headstone unveiling. The rest of the summer is water play and fishing. E is obsessed with both.

Summer break starts officially on Friday at noon. Our house goes on the market Monday. We don't have any plans for Memorial Day weekend. We are moving at the end of June to Omaha so no vacation travel this summer. Dh starts July 1. I have a couple camp things set of O before the move but mostly we will be trying to spend time with a few people we will miss. After we move it will mostly be adjusting, learning the city better and getting the house functioning.

We're going to my parent's cabin for Memorial Day and 4th of July. Being able to quickly get up there for long weekends was part of why we wanted to move back to NorCal, so I'm super excited about making it up there a few times this summer. Lots of hiking and biking and s'mores, and my dad got a paddle boat for us to use on the lake.
DS1 has swim lessons and zoo camp, and DS2 continues music classes through the end of July. DH and I were planning on taking a weekend by ourselves in Napa, but planning for that has been put on hold while we focus on the new house right now.

We're moving at the beginning of August and DH doesn't start work until the end of the month, so we'll have a lot of time together as a family, but I don't anticipate going on any big trips this summer since I'm sure money will be tight during the transition.

DS1 will be in Summer VPK until kindergarten starts. I am looking for a 2x week or 3x week morning class for DS2 (he needs something, but I'm not quite sure what that should be).

We are moving into the jungle house on Thursday, and plan on laying low as Memorial Day kicks off the high tourism season around here. There's been talk of going to the keys at some point for a long weekend, but hurricane season may change my mind. Nothing worse than evacuating on a two lane highway...

My mom comes out in June for a week, and DH and I will celebrate our anniversary with a nice dinner out. 😍

Good grief. And here I was annoyed that we don't have past June yet. I've recently learned that some of the senior attendings actually prefer getting their schedule at the last minute so they can wait longer to put in their requests. This made me ragey.

Anyway. Our big summer plan is a family southern beach trip that I've written about extensively already. That's at the end of July. I'm also taking DS to visit his grandparents for a long weekend at the beginning of July, and we're tentatively planning to go to a wedding in the mountains in August.

There's one week in June where my brother, my parents, my aunt, and my in-laws are all visiting, so that should be interesting.

We're also doing some low-key weekend swim lessons, and I'm hoping to have an open house (or at least some dinner parties) to show off the new place.
