I know nothing about Morristown but regarding Midland....I know enough to not want to live there...or visit...or even spend one night in a hotel.

    Why do you ask?

The only people that I know that like Midland are people that are from that area and have family that have lived there for generations.

Midland and the nearby town Odessa are usually called MidlandOdessa because of the proximity. One town was for the oil field workers and the other was for the "boss men" - one was very rich and the other not so much. Fast forward to recent times...with the oil boom that area was a magnet for anyone trying to make a lot of money quickly. Cost of living was super high because there was not enough housing to meet the demand. There were a lot of new buildings but you would not know it because the place always looked run down. For example, one of our friends took a job there (surgery) and the best they could find was an apartment complex that was recently built. Soon after moving in they realized they were living back in a what looked like a frat house. The grounds were full of cigarette butts and beer cans, etc. People were just there to work in the oil business and had no community pride or engagement. My friends only lasted a couple of years. I had to travel there about once a month for work and hated even going to starbucks. The brand new strip mall with the starbucks would look like a dump. It is also a weird feeling to drive down a road and be surrounded by all white pick up trucks...the fleet vehicles. Staying in the hotel freaked me out...again - all types of crazy characters. Now the town had quite a lot of money....then came the recent decline in oil prices. Housing is a little more affordable now but the place is still in the middle of nowhere TX and not a pretty part of the state to live.

I am sorry for being so negative about the town. I wish I had nice things to say about that area but as I said, the only people that I know that love it there are the people that are from there.

It's been awhile, but I've been to Midland. Nope. No way. And nothing close enough to escape to, even if you wanted to.

I haven't been to Morristown specifically, but I've been to Knoxville, which appears to not be all that far. LOVED IT. It's such a beautiful area. @samssugarmomma or @Chrisada may be able to tell you more.

That's what I thought from googling the place, I was wishing I was wrong since Drh still wants to go and at least check it out in person himself (bring us along with him).

Midland is definitely an oilfield town and not much else. I've been out of the industry a long time, but I would guess the town would be on the verge of collapse from the drop in oil prices. I wouldn't want to live there. The job would have to be extraordinary and I wouldn't buy because resale would be questionable.

Seriously, unless Midland is offering big money and you are willing to kill 2 years there, bank, and move on, don't even consider it.

At least in Tennessee you would have natural beauty and more civilization nearby

Thanks everyone, I just texted DrH telling him that I didn't think it was a good idea to even consider it and send him bullet points of the things everyone has said. Hopefully he comes on board with me...

Anyone at all know anything about Tennessee please some info would be greatly appreciated =)

We have at least one member in TN. All I know is to look at a map, and to tell you that my uncle lives on the other side of Knoxville, about as far from the city as Morristown and also on a lake, and he absolutely loves it and brags about it and will retire there. So there's that.

Morristown is only 2 hours from Asheville, NC. GREAT for weekend getaways!
