I'm a fairly up to speed person. I had not heard of Aleppo until the poster child photo hit the media a few weeks prior. They could have just asked about the Syrian situation. But it's all a game to nail the guy on something. Similarly they ask about foreign leaders he admires, and the headlines read "can't name a foreign leader" when he can't think of someone he admires. Over the media games.

I hear what you're saying, but I think if you're running for president of the United States you ought to be able to name a foreign leader you admire. It's not that hard of a question.

He could have named a past leader or something, but it's hard to ask a party of non-interventionist who they admire. Say someone like Merkel and then they trash you for whatever dirt they have on that person. In this case, he would diminish his philosophical credibility. There is no win to that question.

I think I understand what you're getting at, but I tend to disagree. Even if he's a non-interventionist he's trying to lead one of the most powerful countries in the world. He's got to be able to discuss his contemporaries (or at least someone he learned about when in school). I don't think his politics absolve him of being a well-informed person. He did eventually name Vicente Fox, and I appreciated that he tried to have some humor with it by calling it another "Aleppo" moment, but if so many in our country are claiming we have terrible choices this year and we need better, shouldn't we also demand better of Johnson?

Yes, the Aleppo moment in particular bothered me. I can see how many people wouldn't know what Aleppo is, even though it has been major news lately. However, he is running for president--he should have recognized the name at very least.

Granted, Trump says shit like this everyday and isn't punished for it. But he should hardly be the standard.

I agree, though when it comes to Trump I have to say I was pleasantly surprised that Fox actually said he lost. And now USA Today and Arizona Times have made a judgement about how he's unfit for president. That's something, right? Not that it will sway his fans.

I'm not much into this whole thing but I wouldn't vote for the NM Governor. We lived in NM and the state is in a sorry state. He shouldn't be bragging or using it as a positive accomplishment.

We have 4 people in our house who can vote. All votes will cancel each other out. As far as the debate was concerned, Trump looked unhinged, and Clinton was condescending and arrogant. Zoe watched with us and said Clinton was a "mean girl". Too bad all candidates couldn't participate. The 2 party system needs to go.

This is a very thought-provoking perspective. I've been pondering how I would react if my husband cheated and his mistresses (or others using them) threatened to destroy his career. Would I fight tooth and nail to defend him? To protect my kids? To preserve my own future? Would I turn in my feminist card to do it? Would I lose all credibility on women's issues from there on out? Would it matter whether I believed it happened, or whether I believed he'd change?

I don't know. There have been times in my marriage, on a much, much more insignificant scale, when I've thought "a good feminist wouldn't do this." And I've gone ahead and done it anyway because in my marriage I'm not just a feminist, but a flawed, compromising woman just trying to hold a family together.

I'm having a hard time seeing her as a total traitor to women, when her voting record and policies on women's rights are pretty on point.

These were my exact thoughts. Have not lived there but anyone that visits NM can see there are soooo many issues. However, a born and raised in NM and now gone back to raise his family there friend told me that there is still a lot of work to do but that Johnson was the first to get the state on the right path and has accomplished much. Johnson has friend's vote...which made me think twice about saying I would not brag about what's going on in NM.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

The response I read was 5 million Americans are bothered that Johnson didn't know where Aleppo is. 23 million Syrians wish that Hillary Clinton didn't know where Aleppo is.

OHGosh. So funny, so sad and so true. And nobody tell Trump where Aleppo is. He'll try and build a casino.
