We were at Claire's today, and there was a 15yo girl getting her ears pierced. It turns out "selfie ear" is a thing, because that's the ear that shows in her "selfie pose." Her mom also let us know that the nose ring was fake.

It's been a while since I felt so old.

She showed us her selfie pose to demonstrate, and it pretty much looked exactly like this:

So the ear that's showing is her selfie ear.

          Quoting to see.

I've noticed this phenomenon with my tween and teen nieces. Everything is posed, styled, and filtered. I don't think either of them has taken an awkward picture since approximately 2013. Totally missing out on a formative adolescent experience, imho. 😅

OMG! I'm locking A up until she's 30 - I can't handle this self absorbed world we currently live in.

It's rough. I've had a few convos with my oldest regarding the online image versus real life. She's started following a few instagrams with magazine caliber photos and lives. Editing her own photos has helped her understand (and enjoy) the photo process. I haven't worked up to the concept of brands yet. The pressure to live instagram perfect lives is real. It's a challenge to raise authentic selves.

Being a bit older, imho a formative adolescent experience would be raking the leaves. without expectation of remuneration.

Did anyone see Selena Gomez last night on (whatever) music awards show that was on?
I didn't watch it but saw this on the news.

I've refused to join instagram or twitter and I feel like this has been a solid decision

I love Instagram because of photography. It allows me to share what I want and I don't have to read the political crap on FB. I'd actually delete FB before IG at this point.

No way to snap chat, twitter, vine, etc.

I never could get into Instagram. I've actually had a Twitter account for like 10 years, but I rarely use it. I did briefly in grad school because I had a few friends who only used it, and I have a separate professional account that I use from time to time for mostly professional self-promotion, but that's it.

I have instagram and twitter, and DH has those and snapchat, all to keep up with our kids (and DH likes to play with the snapchat filters lol)!

I have snap chat😜 my kids have it and the filters are fun.
I also have instagram. Both things because my kids do and I can kinda monitor them.
