  • Are your car's seat comfortable? Goldilocks kind of problems....

We've been looking at a few cars since we both have like 10 yo cars and the repairs are becoming a little annoying ( we think this city has particularly crooked dealerships, but you're also kind a walking bulls eye driving a 10yo car into the dealership for service).

Anyway. I literally cannot find a seat that doesn't push my upper body (shoulders/neck) too far forward.

Its whiplash protection and started to be a thing like 6 years ago.... if not a little further back for some brands. But in the meantime I'm going to have all sorts of back and neck pain from sitting like this (I sadly spend a decent amount of time In The car, and I'm sure that will just be getting worse as my kids get older).

Anyone have a newish car whose headrest isn't jutting out into the back of your head so that you are forced to slouch forward?

Im pretty over test driving. It's so time consuming, requires a babysitter and I just want my old (surely unsafe) seats transplanted into a new car... (well and a little more cargo room would be awesome too. Lol).

    Any advice?

Our Subaru doesn't have that issue. My old Honda Civic though, yikes.

I'm not tall enough to read headrest, so I never noticed.

So lucky! Some start curving forward way before the headrest though. And some curve forward narrowly around the sides so that I can't get shoulders back. I drove two more today. Meh. All uncomfortable.

Plane seats do this to me and since I'm short, I get hunched over a lot. I hate it. Our minivan doesn't do this and has plenty of storage especially because you'd only be using the captains chairs. Another huge upside is that they can climb in (no lifting big boys) after they're about 18 months. You still have to cajole them into the seats but usually I just kinda make it a game (and/or yell) and they get in.

My mini doesn't have that problem. My old Subaru didn't either.

What make of minivan do you have?

I was anti-minivan. Realizing now how much easier school pickup and drop would be next year with one.

Yes. Once you go minivan, you won't go back. It's not sexy but sometimes functional is better than sexy. Especially if it keeps you from injuring yourself hefting babies into the car.

We have a 2011 Siena. It's currently under airbag recall but we love it when we have it. We have a 2017 Pacifica and it's also great!

Mini's seats look good. Not too rounded at top with reasonable headrest angle. Minis all probably too small though.... I'm the "big" car driver and we still need to be able to fit a double bob....

I sat in a bunch more today. I really felt pretty comfortable in the x5 seats. But I have to go home and measure my bob. I don't think it will fit. Apparently they are making a bigger one, but not out for about 18mo. Which is probably too long.

I think Subaru is going to give me a cargo space issue. But looking at the seats, there is a chance they will work for my weird problem.

                    Thanks for the info!

Ah, yes. I have a countryman, which is bigger than the regular mini and there is a newer larger model with a bigger cargo space, but they aren't giant cars. Mines quite roomy but I'm not sure a double bob would fit in the trunk. It probably would folded but I doubt you'd get much else in the trunk at the same time.

Ours doesn't have this issue. It's a 2011 VW. I'd never buy a VW (or Chrysler) after our maintenance experiences, though.

Toyota and Honda both have this issue in certain years. It's not their issue. It's the airbag manufacturer and I can't really hold it against them considering it effects roughly 1/3 of American cars or something crazy.

But a newer one (last 2-3 years) won't have this issue and will have really nice bells and whistles bc they know they're competing with SUVs since people have on average only 2 kids.

Since you're still having lifting issues, I'd also pay attention to height of the trunk in SUVs. Some are much higher than others.

In terms of kids getting in and out by themselves, installing running steps has been a game changer.
