What plans do you all have for the 4th?

We are hanging at home. I'm going grocery shopping today for dinner tomorrow. We have a few fireworks to let off and that's it.

The 4th is my birthday! DH has it off so we'll take the kids to the community fair and then celebrate at home with homemade cake.

I'm not sure -- I feel as if I should make a fast plan? We have a very bright and loud 4th based on where we live: seriously, it's like the neighbors suffering through Clark Griswold's blinding Christmas lights at our house. Except with explosions. 😂

This sounds like my former neighbors. We went out of town on our first 4th in the 'hood. My sister and mom were house/dog sitting and gave us the blow by blow...we thought they were exaggerating. The following year...OhhhEmmmmGeeee. Overnight the house would turn into a red, white and blue display complete with tiny flags placed on the perimeter of the front yard. Then, in the evening, they would burn through $2K+ worth of fireworks. We lived outside the city limits so they would have those enormous ones. Their son is a contractor and he would build these contraptions on wheels where he would drop the fireworks and could switch them out. AND yes, they were set to music.

I do not think anything will ever top that annual experience. lol.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

Whoa. We have a neighbor who's really into fireworks. He puts on shows nightly days before the 4th with the big works that sound like rockets going off. He's been at it since Friday. Then on the 4th he puts on a really big show that fills up the entire street. He does abide by the 11pm curfew thankfully, though I wish it was much earlier.

We are at my in laws cabin. DHs parents and both his brothers are here too so the kids are loving the extra attention. DH had to work this week so he drove up with us this weekend, took his dads car back home and will return next weekend. You can see the big fireworks display from their deck so that should be fun.

We are going to swim at my mom's house. DH is smoking a brisket. TulipsAndSunscreen is going to come join the fun. Should be nice!

                scrub-jay happy birthday!

Anyone have suggestions for ear protection for babies? I dislike fireworks.

                  Happy Birthday, scrub-jay!

We got invited to a friend's for burgers. We're potlucking and the spread sounds great. Fruit, veggies and hummus, chips and homemade bean dip, blueberry pie, chocolate cupcakes, and homemade vanilla bean ice cream!

Thanks for the early bday wishes all! I asked my kids to just be kind to one another for a day... and they practically fell down laughing. Oh well, worth a shot.

Yesterday was my birthday, and DH had the weekend off. He planned lots of fun activities, but while I am off today and tomorrow, of course he will be working. Normally it's nbd, but something about the day after my birthday makes me melancholy. And for 8 of the last 11 years we've been at the beach for the 4th, which is where my parents are. I declined to go because of the timing for DHs schedule so I basically elected to stay around here to be alone 50% of the time just so I could have the other 50% with him. All of that is to say...tomorrow I'll be alone. And it just bums me out even though I weighed the options and knew staying here would mean I'd be alone for the 4th. My friends and cousins are either also out of town or working nights today and tomorrow. I'm hoping DH will be able to sign out at 5pm tomorrow as we have tentative plans to grill out and see fireworks but...the second day of service switch paired with medical new year doesn't leave me feeling optimistic.

Ugh I'm such a bummer right now!
