Costco. It was originally a restaurant supply store and I think it's maintained those roots with higher quality products.

Sams is owned by Walmart and I don't think the quality is as good.

Also, Costco pays their employees benefits and a living wage. Sams is owned by Walmart...

I loooove Costco! But the closest one to us is 3 hours north. And the next closest is BJ's. I don't go to either. Ahhh...rural living lol

Costco. I drive an hour to get to one vs 5 mins to the local Sams. I think Costco works best for a family...and there's the Sams is part of WalMart fact too.

See, I don't have a problem with Wal-Mart. I was their counsel and they were truly awesome behind the scenes.

But their stores merchandise isn't as high quality and you can't find someone to answer your question, ever.

I love Costco! I've never been to Sams though. Costco has an awesome return policy and I think I read you can return your membership too if you don't like it. We do the executive membership and our end our year rewards have always covered the cost difference.

Costco. I've bought maybe one thing from Costco that wasn't great quality. Our Costco doesn't have as much kids stuff as Sam's though....that I miss.

They may have have been awesome from a corporate stance but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I am talking from a consumer perspective. I rather drive an hour to be happy with my merchandise and service experience than to deal with the frustrations when shopping at a Walmart/Sams.

Agree. I live near a Walmart now and I literally could not find someone to help me in a full hour the other week. I spoke to 4 different people, all of whom had various communication challenges and didn't understand me and couldn't tell me where I could get help or where their supervisor was. I appreciate it's not a high paying job so there won't be as many employees but clearly no one was getting training on how to help a customer if you don't know how to help.

We switched to Costco when we could and never looked back. I feel Sam's is more business focused and Costco is more consumer focused.

I'm not a fan of most Wal-Marts for that reason...but the fancy schmancy Supercenter up by my parents is awesome. It's kind of amazing. I'll happily shop there any day.

I had both and used both. I love Costco's Kirkland low sodium bacon and is the only reason we had it. Oh and individual packaged chicken. Costco is more expensive than Sam's and farther from us but I choose Sam's. The people at my store know me by name and are friendly and they usually have the meat that I'm always looking for. I prefer some of their bakery items and roteserie chicken.
