  • Dental crowns

So I’m a good candidate for four (possibly six) top front dental crowns. 😏. Whoa boy. Even with a night guard I am still gnawing them down. In cold cash, that’s the equivalent of taking on the expense of braces.

So like any well informed citizen, I’m turning to the internet for advice. 😂😂😂. Essential oils anyone? Vaccines and/or epidurals probably caused my teeth grinding. J/k

I’m all seriousness, what is your experience? Longevity, pain, things you wish you would have done differently? Shop around?

And to be clear, I am getting a second professional opinion from a different dentist with actual literature. Still, I want to tap into the fountain of wisdom.
In my dreams I run with the Kenyans.

Oy. I have the most unhappy teeth. Deep filling and crown cutting down all kill my teeth. I have 7 implants. Lots of dental work makes me nervous-it’s like opening a can of worms into mouth pain. Granted many don’t have my issues but it makes me nervous.

That’s a lot of crowns. I wouldn’t do them all at once and try to find someone super picky to do them too. Don’t trust just any dentist. I agree with getting more opinions. Are the teeth hurting or are they just not looking good? You want crowns to be ‘just right’. Lots of dentists are ok with ‘good enough’ or even ‘not very good’. You need superior.

My GERD has so far resulted in fillings in almost every tooth and 6 root canals with crowns, done by 4 different dentists. Not fun!
Crowns can last anywhere from 5 to 20 years, depending on the quality. I've only ever had one break. That was after 5 years and my current dentist said it was bad quality.
I would find a dentist who has training in cosmetic restoration. The crown itself is not really a painful process but an ill-fitting one can cause a lot of problems. Plus, it's your front teeth so appearance matters a lot!
I love my current dentist because he does both general dentistry and cosmetic. He's realistic about what really needs to be done and the cost but is a perfectionist when it comes to doing a crown just right.
I would probably get them all done at once if possible. You'll already have 3 appointments, one for consultation, one for parimg down your teeth and fitting the temporary, then the fitting of the real crown about 3 weeks later.
Having said that, it is a lot of work and I would make sure that it was absolutely necessary. I always worry about putting a crown on a healthy tooth.
