Who is hosting? Who is traveling? Who is cooking?

We're having my sister, BIL, nephew, my sister's MIL, and my BIL's aunt, uncle, and 3 cousins (though the aunt and uncle are about our age and the cousins are our kids' ages). We have seating for 15, so I told J to invite residents if they didn't have a place to go too.

BIL is cooking 2 turkeys, my sister made cranberries, and her MIL is bringing pies and corn. I'm making mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, grape salad, and rolls. Friday we'll make turkey and sausage gumbo with leftovers.

Staying put and going to a friend's. We've been instructed to only bring the baby. Best Thanksgiving ever?

We are in Columbus with DH’s family. It’s good. I don’t fit in perfectly with his family but at this point (11 years into being together), I’m an institution. I am no longer super self conscious and M knows I need my space sometimes and respects that.

There are like 35 of them and I’m the shortest by 8 inches. Our 8yo nephew is 3 inches shorter than me.

We will do all the things and then “tailgate” OSU/Mich on Saturday since it’s only 3 miles away. The kids are super excited about the game and I think it’ll be memorable for them.

We’re hosting. I’m not feeling it this year, still in our rental, can’t find all of my kitchen stuff and my parents are here driving me insane. Happy Holidays!

At least it’s raining!! We’ve been waiting for a good rain for a long time, so it can put these fires out and our firefighters can celebrate with their families this holiday season.

We’re hosting, but keeping things low-key. The boys and I made pies during naptime today. We were planning on doing the turkey trot in the morning, but we’ll have to see with this rain.
Overall just feeling really grateful this year for all that we have. ❤️

Hosting here. We’ll have 10 total. Pretty low key. It’s soooo cold out! We have about 5” of snow and the temps are dropping. The windchill right now is 8* and it’s going to be -6* tomorrow without the windchill. Buuuurrr
            Happy thanksgiving, all! Gobble, Gobble!🦃

It will just be the kids and Thomas and I. Amanda is working overnight so we’ll be eating at 5.

It will just be the four of us and SIL and I didn't want to spend all day on my feet cooking so we're eating out. It will be a late lunch at a nice, cozy restaurant. I don't think I've ever looked forward to Thanksgiving so much!

My mom is hosting and my in laws are coming to her place as usual.

I'm making stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, a salad, and apparently smoking a turkey. DH was supposed to do that, but he is doing a 12am to 7am moonlighting shift, so it is falling to me. He is making Hula pie, though. And my mom took the kids to her house for the night, so I cant complain much! I make cranberry sauce every year--this year my sister decided to challenge me and make some too. I've already gotten my kids on board that Mommy's is the the best.

A little bummed that my brother and SIL wont be there. She had a C-section Sunday and the pediatrician advised not bringing the baby to the holiday gathering. I've seen him twice and I'm a smitten new Auntie.

Anything will be better than last year, though. DH and my sister were working and my grandfather died. We had 2 relatives my mom can barely handle staying at her house due to my grandfather's condition and altogether it was just sad. My nephew's middle name is my grandfather's though--it's a sweet way to to remember him

And now it is time for my hands to get way too intimate with a raw turkey...

We've established a Thanksgiving hike tradition with ice cream afterwards. Tomorrow's high is supposed to be 19 degrees. So a very short hike, maybe followed by hot chocolate. Then we're going to friends for dinner.
DD1 is waking up at 4 AM to go shopping with her friends on Friday.

I think it's more about the friends, and less about the shopping...

                            Yes! https://nomenu.com/turkey-and-sausage-gumbo/

I usually use Tony Chacheres Instant Roux instead of making my own with the flour and oil. Just mix it with cold water, and then in a separate bowl slowly mix the broth in to warm it up, then mix it into the whole pot to avoid clumping.

I also usually use frozen or fresh pre-chopped vegetables, because I'm lazy.

And I don't use file, and I usually just use smoked sausage because my kids are weird and don't like spicy.

I don't use peppercorns either, just pepper.
