Need advice for a silly reason

I used to be a receptionist at a salon, and this is what I think you should do. Call the salon back and have your name and Pam's name specifically booked into those two appointments with those remaining two pedicurists.

Then tell Loud SIL that it turns out the pedicurist her appointment had been booked with won't be in that day and the salon had to cancel her appointment, but they're offering her a credit for a free pedicure in the future. Make it seem like you were each matched up with specific appointments all along, and the specific appointment that the salon cancelled was the one designated for Loud SIL. And then give her the freebie even though she's obnoxious--it'll be good karma for you.

I really think it's the most fair outcome for everyone even though it's annoying to see her get the free pedicure, and that this lie would qualify as a white lie.

As for looking ridiculous with three people watching two people get a pedicure, in my salon experience that would be a bit unusual, but if everyone is having fun and making an outing of it, I think the salon people will be laughing with you, not at you.

Well-

First- the free one is yours. period. not one need know and hell, after all of this, you deserve it.

I would call the salon and explain the situation. Tell them that they've placed you in a very difficult situation and are there any other treatments available to the SIL who will be hung out to dry (and yes, you get one and the pregnant one gets one)

Then call the other SIL and explain that the salon called and said that there was a mix up so you're going to take the first SIL and make sure that she gets hers done, and since you're traveling so far to make this happen you're taking the other one. Tell rude SIL that you'd be thrilled to reschedule an appointment for her and cousins and other miscellaneous relatives for some other date. Apologize profusely. (don't mean it)

Tell rude SIL that of course she's still welcome to come and watch but perhaps you should all just meet for a lovely glass of wine afterwards.

I really like Julie's idea too. Offering the free pedicure to SIL is a good compromise.

The other option would be for you to let SIL keep the appointment and you could join the 3 in the audience. Then YOU could keep the free pedicure to have at a later date (and without an audience)
