  • Nurses and white

Nurses went from white to the colored/print uniforms in the 1980's.

I heard that a large hospital in Atlanta has instituted a new dress code change for the nursing staff, that they must now wear white, instead of the the colored/print scrubs etc they've been wearing.

They indicated that other hospitals in the USA are looking into changing nurses uniform dress code to white.

EVERYONE one working in a hospital here wears white...except for the blue scrubs which I think are the only color the country makes.. so personally I think it is nice to see some color.

I think I wore white the first year I was out of school . I work in the ER and we pretty much wear whatever we want. One hospital I worked at had a required color scrub for each floor, which was nice because you always knew where others were from!!! Anyone who works in a hospital knows how dirty and disgusting white becomes very quickly!!!! I have mostly blue scrubs.

        Luanne-

Did you get to wear the cool little hat, too? My favorite aunt was an ER nurse and gave me her hat from nursing school graduation (I think I was 4) and I thought it was the coolest thing, ever!!!

LOL, no we don't have hats. When I graduated from Nursing school we received a pin, we never had hats. I'm not even sure where my pin is.

I really like the neat scrubs that the nurses have....especially the peds nurses! It makes things more interesting and still looks professional to me.

I would NEVER have become a nurse had I been forced to wear a white hat or a white uniform! I usually just wear hospital scrubs...kind of drab, but can't be beaten for comfort. They make great PJs, too. I think prints are fine, though.
