I don't mind paying for movies (sad but true the last movie I saw in a theater was Garfield) but I'd rather rent them instead I think it is cozier. I like to bowl, haha so that also is something that has to be paid for. I would rather make dinner than go out for it, mostly cuz I never can decide what I want on the menu. I'm not very cultural so I have never paid for theater or opera. Someday I would like to take dance lessons, I don't know which kind or anything but it sounds fun.

We're big movie buffs, but we still don't like to pay for them. If it's a first-run movie that we want to see we'll try to catch a matinee to get the reduced ticket price. We're also still using our student IDs to get into the local movie theaters here to see the smaller, independent movies. We get tons of Blockbuster gift cards for Christmas and birthdays, it's been years since we've paid for a video rental!
We also love eating out, but we only allow ourselves to do so once a week. Eventually we would like to take golf lessons together, but that will have to wait for when we have more money and time.~Jane

I don't mind paying for anything I can convince myself is virtuous . This includes travelling to see family or anything remotely educational, like museum exhibits.
Movies are $10 or $10.25 here with no matinee discount, so I DO mind paying that, but we still go all the time because we love going to the movies. FH especially--I think he'd go three times a week if I didn't constantly remind him how quickly that adds up.Married to a hematopathologist seven years out of training.

I don't mind paying for cultural things.....symphony tickets, theater, exhibits, museum admissions, etc., because the combination of DH's schedule and the fact that we live in a cultural backwater means that we hardly ever have the opportunity to do those things......so when the stars are aligned just right and we get the chance, I will pay whatever!

I'm a cultural events junkie, so I pay a lot for symphony, opera, and ballet tickets. BF is not really into that, so he goes with me sometimes but not often.
We like movies and I definitely don't mind paying for a Netflix subscription. BF gets $5.50 movie passes through the hospital for the major theaters here, so that's nice. And he still uses his student id for other theaters.
We don't like spending money on sporting events but would probably go if it were cheaper.

We rarely, if ever, go to the movies or attend cultural events ('cuz we're from Southern Ohio where cultural events entail monster truck pulls or large farming equipment). Yup, we are blue collar to our core.
To answer your question honestly, we spend a significant amount of our annual income on a nice vacation every year. DH would grumble about the money but knows that this is part of the agreement to my staying here in the Tundra for residency.

We used to do cultural events and movies back before we had kids, but now our main hobby is shopping--does that count as paying for entertainment? I seriously can't think of anything entertainment-wise that we pay for. We haven't taken any vacations that didn't revolve around a conference for dh's work. I guess we do go to one nice-ish restaurant per week (when I say "nice-ish" I mean something like Friday's or Mimi's, a step up from fast food). We rarely even rent movies. We do have a zoo membership that we use pretty frequently, aside from that the stuff we usually do is free, such as taking the dog and kids to the park, etc.Awake is the new sleep!

We will pay for museum, and symphony tickets, although come to think of it we haven't gone since Brigham was born. Hmmmm. Anyway, we also pay for the zoo, aquarium and Science center passes.
However, we rarely eat out- maybe once a month, and rarely go out to the movies- once you add up the cost for babysitting and the cost of tickets it's close to $50. So we do Netflix, and love it! We have seen 2 movies at the theaters in the last 6 months- Bourne Supremacy, Return of the King (saw it at the $3 theater), and Harry Potter.
