Now that H-ween is over and it is less than 4 weeks to Thanksgiving, does anyone have any fun plans?

We are staying home to be with my parents and b/c we are broke. I am excited just the same. What is everyone else planning?.......

Is it less than 4 weeks to Thanksgiving!!! My parents are coming to visit for the week, and we will have a dinner here at our house. Hopefully a couple from Mac's med school will be coming too, just for variety... In the meantime, I have to 1) put up window treatments in our house, b/c it drives my mom nuts that I don't have any up yet... (yes, we've been here for more than a year, but I am very picky... and we got our windows replaced, so I didn't want to invest in anything and then have it not work, which incidentally was wise on my part and we do have some window treatments, but they just aren't that pretty)... AND I have to buy Christmas gifts for family back home to send back with my mom... So I have a lot to do I guess...

We may end up with a fast-food Thanksgiving. DW will be spending that time in COT (Officer training) in Montgomery, AL. We don't know her schedule yet, but are fully prepared for anything thrown at us! No family visits this year.

DH has Thanksgiving off (but has to work Christmas, in exchange for the luxury of having Turkey Day off ), so we'll be spending Thanksgiving with my parents. While I always love Thanksgiving, I'm especially excited for this year because it will be the end of my first trimester and we'll tell our families about the baby at that time. I can't wait!

DH is on call from Wed. - Sun. that week, so that pretty much shoots the holiday for us. I will probably just do a turkey breast, but other than that, we will have all the trimmings and focus on what we have to be thankful for, which is quite a bit......something that my kids (and me! ) would benefit from thinking about for a while.

The weekend before Thanksgiving, however, we are heading up to Manhattan, KS to see my in-laws and go to a KSU football game. My FIL is a Dean there and has been dying to take the boys to a game. I would have loved to have gone in Sept. or Oct., but I am a little apprehensive about a November football game......neither DH or I care even a little about football, so if the weather is miserable, we will be hating life. But we will get to see our little nephew, which we are looking forward to, and hopefully, getting away for the weekend will take a little sting out of being stuck at home for Thanksgiving.

We're having dinner with my family, for the first time in five years! I haven't seen them on Thanksgiving since before I met DH. We still don't know who is hosting dinner - I would like to because I'm going to be doing most of the cooking anyway, but it all depends on if SIL(who just had the twins) is feeling up to travelling here. I may just have to cook at my mom's house. I can't wait to feast!!

Alison, would you mind passing along the recipe for the spinach and sausage pie? It sounds yummy! And if I may be so nosy, why have you given up meat? Health, ethical, etc? I *tried* to become a veggie a few years ago but found it pretty difficult once I discovered that I loathe tofu! I'm embarassed to admit that I tried it for ethical reasons and here I am eating meat again!

Since Thanksgiving is an American holiday, there is no official holiday over here. Although I usually make a turkey breast, some sweet potatoes, and some kind of pie just to celebrate a little. DH loves a huge Thanksgiving dinner I think it is alot of work, but don't mind going to someone elses house for dinner.

We are visiting my highy dysfunctional family for a week. I haven't been home for Christmas or Thanksgiving for 10 years. I hope I make it through the holiday......I'm one of those people that is MUCH better off far away from home. I'm wondering if we should stay in a hotel (less stress, but more parental anger) or split the visit between my divorced parents' homes (less parental anger, more stress) . Decisions, decisions.......

Stay in a hotel, Angie! I think the decrease in stress is a fair trade for the parental anger. (But I guess I don't know you parents). We had a recent and particularly stressful visit to my in-laws and the hotel was our haven. Good luck on that one.

I think we will be having Thanksgiving at our house (just us) with my mom coming to visit. Should be nice. The next week, our kitchen will be "deconstructed" so we can finally start to remodel it (dare I type this and jinx it?). The turkey will be among the last meals for the current set-up. *I hope*!

I second the stay in a hotel idea! At least you'll have a quiet place you can retreat to if things get nutty at either parent's house.
I can't wait for Thanksgiving--last year we bought a fake Christmas tree that already has the lights on it (I've been wanting one for years so we bought one after Christmas that was over half off!) so I can't wait to start deocrating. My parents are going skiing with my sister and her dh--we were invited but opted for a quiet Thanksgiving at home instead.

My husband is working on Thanksgiving, but he has the next day off, so we'll either celebrate at the hospital or a day late. I've been asking him to get a list going with the nurses so that everyone can bring a dish on Thanksgiving, but he hasn't done anything yet. Men! DH hasn't had Thanksgiving off in about 5 years, so it's nothing new this year. Luckily he has a week off at Christmas, though. His group rotates the holiday schedule so he'll be getting Thanksgiving next year.

Thanksgiving's my holiday to work, but I think DH will be with our daughter.

Thanksgiving week is DH's first holiday. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!
That sums up how I feel about that.

We are going to Blowing Rock, NC for a few days then to Sky Lake, GA
(near Helen) for Thanksgiving with his former stepfather and his second wife's family -who treat us like we are their own( as opposed to DH's mother who has only seen DD once for 15 minutes).

I wish I knew...my husband starts a new rotation on 11/13 and we have no idea of our schedules for Thanksgiving or Christmas. He's an intern so we're not expecting to go anywhere which is fine, we know you have to pay your dues. We'll probably spend turkey day with a few other resident couples.

Alison, thanks for that recipe. I'm making it tonight. Of course, I calculated the calories on fitday for the whole thing and I can only have a teeny weeny portion. 4600 cals for the whole pie. :!

I didn't find any Gimme Lean at the store, but I was surprised to see all the new meat substitutes. I'm going to give some of them a try.
