  • Do Not Call - Cell Phones

Thought you all might want to be aware so you don't burn all of your anytime minutes trying to get telemarketers off the line:

Starting Jan. 1, 2005 all cell phone numbers will be made public to
telemarketing firms. So this means as of Jan 1, your cell phone may start
ringing off the hook with telemarketers, but unlike your home phone, most
of you pay for your incoming calls. These telemarketers will eat up your
free minutes and end up costing you money in the long run.

According to the National Do Not Call List you have until Dec. 15th 2004
to get on the national "Do Not Call List" for cell phones. They said
that you need to call 1-888-382-1222 from the cell phone that you wish to
have put on the "Do Not Call List" to be put on the list. They also said
you can do it online at http://www.donotcall.gov

All I can say is thank goodness for the Do Not Call list! When we moved to our new place, the telemarketing calls started literally the day after we got our phone line connected!! I suspect the phone company sold our number to telemarketers.

You're not kidding!!! We were on the list at our old place and never got any calls. It's not a joke, the day we moved in, I swear the phone started ringing with crap calls. Grr. Needless to say, signing up with the new number was one task I did NOT procrastinate on!!!

We used to get calls constantly at our old place as well. I would never answer calls that came up 'unknown caller' on our ID. Since we moved (I put our number on the list prior to moving day) we haven't had any. Its wonderful, and I forget how wonderful it is until I'm at someone's house who hasn't registered on the list.
