  • Savings Accounts

    Hey all-

My brother told me about a new savings account through ING (you know, those commericials where people try to figure out what -ing is?)

Anyway, it actually pays better than most savings accounts I've found- 2.35%. Not a ton of money, but I figure every few bucks helps. The beauty is that it's all done online. I am going to transfer most of our savings from our regular bank (which is currently earning slightly over 1%) to the new one. There's no minimum balance, either. My brother has set up a savings account for my nephew there and has money directly deposted from his checking account every week.

There's some deal too, where if you refer people you get like 10 buck or something, too.

The website is http://www.ingdirect.com if anyone is interested.

I've been using ING for two years now and I love it. You can link up your checking account to it from a different bank and move money back and forth with ease. Their interest rate is the best I've seen and it actually has gone up since I opened my account. I highly recommend it! Don't keep your savings money where your checking account is...my checking account now includes interest and it's something ridiculous like 0.4%!

That's a great rate, Jenn! We have our checking with Wachovia and are currently getting just over 2% interest on that account...which is surprising considering a lot of checking accounts don't collect any interest!

We have an ING account too (and a CD ladder). If anyone would like a referral, please let me know. You get $25 if someone refers you.

I might take you up on that referral--at the end of March, I should be getting my bonus at work and we wanted to put it into what ever savings account would be best to gain a little interest before we use it next summer for a house downpayment--any better ideas than that to gain some returns on a little chunk of money??
