  • Helpful suggestions for moving

We are moving in 2 weeks and I am on my own packing w 2 kids. Here's what has worked for me...Start w/ one room at a time. I started w/ my son's room, sorting through his toys. Anything broken I fixed or threw out. If I thought he'd outgrown a toy, I asked him to play with it. If he lost interest in a few minutes, I put it in the yard sale pile. All the clothes that he outgrew, I put in a box and sold as a "lot" on ebay. I did the same for my daughter's room. I brought home 2 boxes from work every day and packed them at night. I also packed away everything we didn't need like towels (only kept out 4). We are in the process of eating only the food in our cabinets. Sure we are having salmon cakes and ramen for dinner, but oh well! Finally, I am having a yard sale on Saturday. I will price things cheap. At the end of the yard sale, anything I don't sell will go directly to Salvation Army. This will leave me with an empty garage which I will fill with packed boxes. On the day of the move, we will pull the Uhaul to the door and pack. Hope this helps. Moving sucks. Don't forget to listen to music and drink a glass of wine while packing. IT HELPS! GOOD LUCK!

Fantastic!! I love the toy-weeding-out strategy.

You must be in a warmer climate than I am, b/c I'm waiting with baited breath for nicer weather to break so I can have my mega yard sale. Did you have a house to sell or are you renting?
