    Isn't that sad? I also hate that they have spent the last 24 hours talking about how will come after him....let him pass away in peace before you start replacing him.

      I'm not a Catholic either (not into organized religion at all), but it is terribly sad. Whether or not you agree w/the Pope's policies, he was a man of peace - and there are too few of those in high places (no pun intended).

      From a nerdy standpoint, the conclave is mentioned in "Angels & Demons", not the Da Vinci Code. I assume it's relatively accurate - although I have no idea why I make that assumption!

          Oh, I guess it was some other super-secret meeting in Da Vinci Code. I think that one happened somewhere other than the Sistene Chapel. Good memory!

          I just looked at a timeline of his life -- very accomplished. I didn't realize that he had such an impact on the end of the Cold War.

              Hi from Catholic Ireland,

              Yes he is definetly gone, the conclave of archbishops will meet in about six days then in about twenty the elections will take place, it will be by majority of two thirds ,and then the chimmney will puff smoke to signal the election of the new pope, whil i am a lapse catholic who lives with a muslim partner, it is sad, but he is at peace now
