  • too much stuff!

I always knew I was one of those "conspicuous consumers", but as I'm going through stuff to get ready to put the house on the market, I'm really overwhelmed by all THIS JUNK!

How on earth do 2 adults accumulate so much stuff? I'm not even talking about the kid stuff, which is another case of craziness.

I've GOT to get this under control!

You will feel so much better when you do. I think it was Kelly who had a thread awhile ago about how much better and lighter she felt when she started getting rid of a bunch of her stuff.

I'm becoming more and more of a believer in this. Although it was born of necessity with us living in a small apartment, I've grown pretty attached to our "minimal stuff only" lifestyle. To the point where I'm starting to get a little anxious about all the stuff that we're aquiring in connection with our wedding. The shower was last weekend and the stuff we got was great--a set of everyday plates that actually match, a ladle so we don't have to scoop up our soup with a measuring cup anymore, etc. But it all just barely fit into our kitchen cabinets when we got home. Perfect.

But now everyone is like "Now that your registry has been cleared off by your shower, you have to fill it back up for your wedding." What? Nooo. Sorry, we're full up here. :|

Ok, now I've hijacked, but I say yes, unburden yourself of the extra stuff and enjoy the breathing room and elbow room it brings you in your space.

My mother passed away almost two years ago. Since that time we have cleared out a 6 bedroom house that was packed with stuff that belonged to my mother and father. It took almost 2 years to clean it out (sure - we could have done it faster) but now the house is cleaned out and sold. I have sworn never to live with that OR to leave my children with my stuff to clean out.

We are currently purging for our move, but fortunately we don't have too much stuff

      Good luck!

That's part of why I have so much stuff! My mom died almost 9 years ago, and I'm an only child & my parents are divorced. I was 23 at the time and really not able to cope with truly going through things - so I took most everything with me. I'm really trying this time to dig through and lighten the load. After all, it doesn't do anything for me to have it all in boxes, and if I didn't need it to remember and honor my mother for the past 9 years, so I won't need it to move forward.

I'm taking FIVE bags to Good will this week plus our old sofa. Really, this is just ridiculous accumulation on my part.

                Kristen,

You could purchase a sofa from Goodwill cheaper than the cost to get my super gross couch to Thief River Falls. I wish that I could just give it to you. I am available for kid watching during your move, however. How far are you from the TC again?
