  • Grey's Anatomy - the tv show!

Ok, I thought we had started a discussion on this but I guess not. Is everybody/anybody watching this? I have to say that last night's season finale was definitely funny and shocking. I also have to say that the wife they had show up at the end fit the stereotypical dawkter's wife. I can't wait to see what the story is there. I also thought the whole syphullus (sp?) story-line was a riot.

My DH watches this with me when he's home and he's very excited to have a network show highlight a neurosurgeon.

Please tell me I'm not the only one that hasn't missed an episode! 8)

It seems like there are tons of shows like this popping up. Sadly, the only program I watch anymore is Supernanny...when I can remember to turn it on! 8)

We were watching it at the beginning, but due to all of the inaccuracies we couldn't stand to watch it anymore.

        Sorry!

You raise an interesting point, I think this is exactly why "reality" television are the only shows that last anymore. I like shows like Grey's and Scrubs because of the relationships they portray, not the medicine. My DH watches them for the same reasons. Yes, sometimes he'll point something out that was inaccurate but for the most part he likes to get away from reality by watching them.

I wish shows would go back to how they were when I was growing up. Just far enough out there that you knew they weren't real. Creativity and Imagination are lacking in a lot of television shows these days.

So true. No one ever questioned the realism of Mork and Mindy or Gilligan's Island. Not to mention the whole "freeze the earth" plot on General Hospital when I was in middle school.

I have seen a few Grey's Anatomy shows. I try to disregard the medicine - unless I'm joking around about inaccuracies with friends. It seems like it could develop into a good show. I liked the major twist at the end with the wife showing up -- I guess I still have soap opera tastes after all these years .

I see absolutely no problem with the realism of Mork & Mindy. Okay, okay, towards the end of the series when Mork started getting younger, that was a bit hard to swallow.

I like Scrubs!!! It's more of spoof rather than trying to be serious and accurate.

I can handle when a show outside of a drama (serious and dark usually) is silly and not accurate. It's the other shows that bug me a bit.

We love Scrubs, too- because it's a spoof. It started when Matt was an intern. He would come home and watch it and say "Oh my gosh Dr. Kelso reminds me of so and so in the dept." One time there was an episode about medicine residents not coming to Grand Rounds, and while watching the episode Matt said "This very thing got talked about in an email today!"

I think what bugs me so much about Grey's is not only are there inaccuracies in the medicine side of it, but in the living part of being portrayed in Seattle, and in the relationships of the show. I guess it's just too "soapy" for me. When Matt did his med rotation in surgery one of the surgeons at DGH (Denver Gen) hadn't seen his girlfriend in 2 months because he was on-call so much. From hearing what life is like from some the surgery spouses on the board, I doubt that a "true" surgery resident would be getting as much action as the characters on this show are. I would be fine with the show if there a even a bit of truth to what is being portrayed. We went to a UW Anesthesia dept dinner not too long ago, and we sat with another couple from Matt's program and laughed about Grey's, and how much we loved ER.

The sad thing about these medical dramas is that is what the general public thinks a doctor's life is like or that is what the profession is like. I can't tell you how many times Matt gets asked-- "So what happens on ER is that for real?"

Anyway, I know it's supposed to be entertaining, but I just don't find it that appealing....

I've had at least three (non-medical) people ask me, "So, is 'Grey's Anatomy' pretty accurate?"

                      Um, no.

Ok, sorry to digress--but my DH WORSHIPS Scrubs and he was super disappointed to find out that it might not be back next year? I guess the official word is that they will bring it back sometime mid-season to replace whatever bombs out, but that it won't be starting out in September per usual--I guess it's on the bubble? So disappointing since it's a nice stress reliever for DH and we really enjoy the relationship between Perry Cox and his on again/off again wife Jordan. We were rolling on the floor during the season finale when they were watching Jack sleep and talking about how cute he was...and then both hit the floor when they thought he might be waking up. Ah, such is parenting!
