  • Is the cost of gas cutting into your pocketbook?

The price of gas is really starting to catch up with us here...even though I know it isn't as expensive as it is in other places. We were going to St. Paul every weekend for the kid's german school, and our VW van ate up nearly $45 of gas each WEEK....we realized that we paid more for the gas (and the meals after the german school) than we did for tuition for all 3 chidren.

We've decided that this summer I'll only drive if necessary...we're going to try and be on bikes/go by foot for most things including going to the grocery store. (Hey, maybe it will cut down on our grocery bill too since my bike trailer won't hold 20 bags of groceries! ).

We are kind of hovering right at about $2/gallon...sometimes it's more..sometimes it's less.

I think I paid $2.31 last time I filled up. We ditched the Landcruiser which has helped immensely. Otherwise, I try to combine trips, or carpool (kids to activities).

We pay over $2 for the supreme for the VW (but it's more like $2.17 or so...) $2 was for regular unleaded

      It's nuts, isn't it!

The $2.31 was for regular. I think the super duper stuff is around $2.51. It's crazy!

I'm taking the Metro or a cab (who are now charging fuel surchages, too!) whenever possible. I also took my car in for an oil change and made sure that everything was up-to-date (tire pressure, etc.) to ensure that I get the best mileage possible. Pretty much we only ever drive to my parents house. Rick drives to work but now that it's nicer, he's been riding his bike. (we're only 8 miles away from the hospital)

The only other time I drive is if I have to buy something. (groceries I walk and get becuase I have one of those standing grocery carts and it's actually easier to walk to the store than to drive) NIkolai and I have to go to the adoption agency today and then go register him at the Russian Embassy (they like to keep track of their citizens) so we will drive.

I don't use my minivan enough to really have the gas prices affect us. I have to fill up the tank about twice a month so it's worked out to be not too big a deal that the prices have gone up a bit....

The gas has definitely made a dent ... and we're driving to NJ from OH this weekend for BIL's wedding. It doesn't help that over the past 2 days I've seen $1.91 to $2.19 for the lowest octane stuff. It's v. frustrating for me that 30 minutes makes that big of a difference is pricing.

Our gas is actually dropping. We're down to $1.87. I think our high was around $2.15
