  • Plans for the 4th?

    So, what's everyone doing?

We have a weekend of events, not all are fun. Saturday we have to go help my parents pack and move some furniture to my house and to my brother's house. Sunday we're going to be running back and forth from their old house to the new house. (have I mentioned that since they haven't moved in 30+ years, they have NO idea how far behind they are in packing. My mother still has knick knacks out and her pots and pans still put away. By this time we would have been eating take-out on paper plates...)

Saturday evening is a 'birthday party' for my friend's one-year-old. (Really, an excuse for my friend and her husband to call the caterer and get a keg). Sunday, if there's enough time between running around with my parents, I also want to go to the Smithsonian Folk Life Festival. (again) This year is really interesting- they're doing Oman (the country) American Foodways (Emeril and Paul Prudhomme are coming along with some others) along with other stuff.

Monday I think we're going to try to make the parade, but not the fireworks. I think fireworks on the Mall might be a wee bit too much for the little dude.

So, what's going on in your next of the woods?

We're heading to my Ils cottage for a couple of days. It's on a lake, so we'll go boating and swimming, eat hot dogs and hamburgers, be lazy and lounge around... Plus the weather is supposed to be nice (80's 8) ) so it should be nice!!

DH is on call plus the fellow is on vacation this weekend so he gets all her calls too.

I have a few big planters for the deck that I want to fill and a few bare spots in the front so I'll be making a trip to the garden store. *fingers crossed* I hope we can go on a short hike in the park. Fireworks would be fun but my kids probably won't be able to stay up that late!

We are building the steps for the patio we told the lady who is buying our house we would put in before closing.

Uhg. Fireworks again? Guess we'll spend 6 hours sweating in blistering humidity, 2 in the car, 2 walking to the fireworks site, and 2 being deafened and eaten alive by insects.

I'll be working on a paper for school, Jory is on call Friday thru Monday as the ICU Intensivist, which means he won't get out of the hosdpital much and he will have "brand new" docs with him.. He loves the residents and they tend to really like him. I'll be working one shift in the ER which I usually try not to do the first week of July!!!

DH is on call most of the weekend, including the 4th; I work the 4th so DD is in daycare. I hope everybody who's getting away or out has a great time!

              Marla,
Does your ICU have 24 hour coverage with critical care attendings? Our hospital is just starting this, and all critical care attendings take their turn. I think it is called "leapfrog" in some hospitals.

DH is working Friday-Monday. I am taking my kids and slepping them back to our old stomping ground in Cleveland. I hope I survive the roadtrip. DH seems to think I will have it made with lots of people around to help me with the kids. It won't be easy street with two little ones in an unfamiliar environment translating in me getting zero sleep. However, I am excited to catch up with old friends and coworkers. We are returning Monday to hopefully catch some fireworks with DH.

Well....like all good low-rung employees, DW is on call from Fri-Mon. The good(and bad) thing about that, is that it is all "Mommy calls". I am sure that she will be first to get a call when some youngster gets there hand burned (or worse) with the fireworks from the weekend of activities.

The really exciting part about it, DW's birthday is in a couple weeks and we got her B-day gift early....in our attempts to single-handedly see how much we can have outstanding in loans, other than credit cards, we are taking out "her" new Sea-Doo. I have never ridden on one, she has....and I have been informed....it is hers!!

We have no plans for the 4th as of today.

One of my boyfriend's classmates is having a party, so we'll probably go to that. Otherwise, his mother is almost certainly having a BBQ, or going to one we could tag along for.
I'm just hoping for some serious quality time.

                        Luanne--

My ICU has no (required) persons to cover it in house overnight, ever. Our fellows take call from home and generally only come in or stay overnight when somebody is really sick. We have intensivists who cover our patients during the day, 7 days a week, so the fellows can spend most of their time in the OR. If a pt comes out of the OR after intensivist hours, the fellows have to put in orders (or be sweet enough to us so we'll do it!) There are THREE intensivists and they work with anesthesia residents (1-2) who rotate through our unit about every 6 weeks. You can imagine how painful...er...I mean, CHALLENGING this is with SO MANY COOKS in the kitchen!!!!!

Well, we like to go camping whenever there is a 3 day weekend. However, DH realized he was on call this weekend so we can't be anywhere without phone service. He's been really stressed at work and was bummed that we couldn't go camping, so I suggested we do some local activities. So we will be going to the zoo one day, going to another animal park another and one day just to relax. I can't wait to get out of here and start the weekend!

Hope everyone has a happy and safe fourth!
