  • Last minute vacation plans?

Does anyone have any fun end-of-the summer kind of vacation plans? We just got Thomas' vacation schedule for August and are trying to decide on a whether to try the same place that we went last year (for camping/water park) or to try something new. On the one hand, if we go where we went last year, we could make this into a new family tradition...but it might be interesting to try out something else.....hmmmm

We're going to the beach next week! I think I just found a place. We decided to scrap the trip to Colorado Trying to deal with family is stressful and we decided we needed a vacation that felt that a vacation.

I might still go to Madison with the kids if I can get cheap airfare. I failed to realize it is much easier (and cheaper!!) to get there from Denver.

Have fun in Breckenridge, Allison! One of my absolute favorite hiking trails is near there off of Vail pass along a little gulch. I'll try to remember the name of it. Georgia Pass is also a great one (along the Colorado Trail) but I can never find the trailhead on the Breck side. That will get you *georgous* views of the Breckenridge valley and South Park.

Have fun where ever you decide to go, Kris. That place you went last year sounded fun!

We're going to Saugatuck (resort town on the western side of Michigan) for a long weekend in August and are sooooooo looking forward to it! We went a couple of years ago and had a fabulous time, so we decided it would be fun to do again. We're staying in the same B&B we did the last time, and we'll go to the beach, eat at quaint restaurants, walk along the waterfront, loll outside coffee shops, browse the art galleries... I can't wait!!

We're going to Finger Lakes for 5 days with another couple. We wanted a low key getaway that didn't require flying. This is our in-between-vacations vacation.

We went to Russia twice so our big vacation will be to California to see Rick's mom and go to his HS reunion in September. Whoo f-ing Hoo.

At least I'll be able to see the chicks that sent him boobie shots after he graduated from Med School.

If we can work it into the budget we'll go to Martha's Vineyard in September. It's the off-season and will hopefully be within our range at that time (that, and we have good friends who can "hook us up" ). We'll see....

Oh, you should know me well enough now to know that my wierdest stories are always, always true. Maybe it's the common way to greet people in the desert of California? He got two different boobie shots. Two different girls. Guess they didn't read the next line on his Classmates.com update- "graduated from medical school. The next day got married..."

We just returned from vacation which was not really a vacation for DH. His back went out the day we left for the beach so he was in pain and didn't have much mobility. Wednesday he found out he that his grandmother died in St. Louis. He left a day early and flew to Indiana and drove onto his grandmother's house for the funeral. I had the pleasure of driving with the kid's for a 13 hour trek home. We are scheduled for a trip to Northern Michigan at the end of August. My mom just volunteered to watch the kids at our house so DH and I can go by ourselves. My mom rocks! I think we will hit Saugatuck, Traverse City or Mackinaw Island for a couple days. I hope to make up for DH's lack of vacation and let him fall in love with MI so he will want to move there!

I've heard the same thing. Years ago my family and I wanted to go and just look at the place and they wouldn't let us past the front gate because we had jeans on. That was enough to make us not want to stay there. I think our idea of a vacation was a bit different than theirs. But the island is definately fun.

They probably did, but a girl who isn't afraid to send a boobie shot to a new dr probably isnt afraid he is married either. Classy.
