    .... vanity sizing.

I just received a big package from Land's End. I ordered large T-shirts and yoga pants because -- well-- because I'm not small. Turns out I *am* small after all!! I can swim in these suckers! I have to send everything back, and I don't think the medium will fit either. It is just so strange. I've been buying clothes lately to fill in the wardrobe I wore to death through training. I'm a different size every place I go. It's a pain. Anybody else encounter vanity sizing? And more importantly, where is a size 10 = size 4? I want to shop there!

Crazy how that works, huh? And why is it that at our MOST vain moment (the wedding dress) the sizing works in reverse? I'd worked my butt off to fit in "normal" sizes (always been chubby), and a 12 was great for me. So why was my wedding dress an 18? Because that's how the evil empire sizes the stinkin' things. Cruel. :>

I call that "Asian sizing". Whenever I can't fit in something, I check the label to see if it was made in China. Yes - I use racial differences as a defense mechanism. So sad. So true. I got a pair of shorts in a size 14 the same day I bought jeans in a size 10. Same store.

Wedding dress a size 18? That's just evil. If ever there was a place for vanity sizing. Wait....that's a business idea!

It's been so long since I've gotten any new clothes, I wouldn't even know what size to begin looking in... (two pregnancies and three kids later... I don't think I WANT to know what size to begin looking in!!)

That's why I stick with JCrew, Gap and Banana. I'm a 6/S in those places (and sometimes even 4/XS). As oppose to 8/M everywhere else. As for the wedding dresses, I was about 10lbs lighter and my dress was a 10.

What's funny is that my husband just bought an Adidas shirt and it had the European & American sizes both listed on the label. The American size of the shirt was a Large and the European size was X-Large....hmmmmm....
