DH swears by newegg.com for all things computer.

I LOVE my Dell. I've had it for probably five years now but it still works great and their warranties are unparalleled. My DH has one as well.

We have had 3 Dell computers: one laptop and two desktops. We have had one desktop for 7 years, and the laptop for 5. All three computers are in working condition, and we haven't had a problem. The oldest desktop is in our son's room, currently.

Also, it should be noted that we run our computers ragged, and I personally don't know anyone who logs more hours on their computers than we do. I did freelance web design for years, my dh is a computer geek, and we do everything on the computer, from video, to graphics design, to presentations, and everything in between.

I love out Dell's, and they are the best computers on the market, in my opinion. Unless you want to build your own, you can't go wrong with a Dell. They are helpful and friendly (even if the wait can be a bit long to talk to someone). The have great warrantees.

Our newest computer was purchased less than a year ago using a coupon from slickdeals.net:

      http://www.slickdeals.net/

They often post great deals on Dell computers. We got ours 40% off, and ended up getting a $3000 computer for $1800. We couldn't have built this computer ourselves for that much money, so we were really happy with the deal we got. Also, you can check out refurbished systems on Dell's website.

We just bought a new laptop, a Dell. I like it a lot. We also found a great deal, I don't know the specifics but it was something like the $3000 down to $1800 deal. We didn't find it on slickdeals, we heard about it through friends (though I use slickdeals ALL the time).

I was under the impression Dell was building our computer for us. DH went through and picked out exactly what features he wanted, then they put it together and shipped it. It was actually very fast.

Yes. What I meant by building our own was ordering each of the components separately and putting them together ourselves. This was the route we were going to go, to hopefully save some money and get exactly what we wanted, but it ended up being cheaper to go with Dell. You can customize your computer very much by using them, and in essence, "build your own."[/quote]

Dell often has sweet deals for phyisicians- at least they do for military physicians. or maybe it's just the military.

We just spent a wad on a Mac laptop because we both grew up on macs and were ready to return to the fold. I couldn't be happier.

We had an HP desktop and the motherboard fried (note to all, if your surge protector has been hit once, it's no longer effective. The problem? There's no way to tell if it's been hit once. According to the people at best buy, they're sort of like bumpers- only made to withstand the impact once.)

Dell makes really good products. Just dont' do the lease thing, and don't use their loan program. Bad experience here. Gateway also makes really good procucts. Our cpu here is a gateway, and i think the laptop Dh just got is a Dell.

We got a nice "academic" discount. I think there was a link for educators or something on the website.
Ditto on the financing. Big PITA. I paid it off during the interest free period but it took them forever to get it straight.

Wow, lot's of Dell fans here!

Well sorry but I wouldn't go back to a PC if you paid me a million bucks.
                  Mac fan here...
With my Mac, no more crashes, no more viruses and far more user friendly! And it can do and use everything a PC can....
The Dell laptop we had kept crashing from the beginning. Sent it back to the factory 3 TIMES only to have it sent back with the exact same problem each and every time. $1600 down the drain...

Mac also gives residents (students) discounts...

I'm also in the Mac fold. If I ever check out "the other side", I'll check out the Dell. We love all our Macs in this house. No viruses, no crashes, and all those cool commercials!
