Okay - I realize I'm not the most "plugged in" girl, but how did Joe Ranft die on Tuesday and I didn't hear about it until today in Crystal's post? The media really hones in on the larger spectacle and leaves out the real heart-stories.

I also just learned today about an African-American pregnant woman who has been missing for a month and whose remains were just found. If I remember correctly, the Laci Peterson thing was ALL over the news for at least a month before they found her remains -- why not this woman? It may have been out there, but I don't remember seeing it.

I watch Today pretty regularly, I'm online a lot (obviously) and see the headlines on Yahoo, I scan the magazines at the grocery store .... did I just ENTIRELY miss these two, big things? I managed to hear about the 17 year old who was mauled by a tiger while she was getting her senior picture taken (whose dumb idea was that?).

BTW - I am a HUGE Pixar fan, and will truely miss Joe Ranft's talents.

Joe Ranft was the voice of the caterpillar in Bug's Life, and the voice of the Penguin in Toy Story Two. He did a lot of dialogue and script writing for Pixar. I found out from our good friends, who happen to be close to his family. Matt told me he heard it on NPR the same day.

I think it is wierd how the media is "choosie" about when to cover what. It boggles my mind.

The media is very choosy, its sad. The Philly woman even caused Dateline to do a story about how some disappearing women were covered (Laci Peterson vs. this woman) but it didn't change anything, you still never heard about it.

I'm from kansas and the big news lately has been the BTK trial. My parents lived in Wichita around the time all of this was happening. What kills me is that one of the lead stories on the news last night was "How much did his wife really know?" This poor woman has passed so many lie detectors and her kids have yet now that the trial is over and he's been sent away for life in order to keep the news going they go after his wife. I've learned you have to watch all news programs with a grain of salt because you never know what is really true.
Wife to NSG out of training, mom to 2, 10 & 8, and a beagle with wings.

That's how it was when we were living in Colorado- we lived there during the Columbine massacre. Even 2-3 years later they still seemed to be a news story on something related to Columbine on the evening news.
