Did anyone watch the finale? It was so so good. I was an avid watcher but dropped off last season as it got kind of crazy.

I loved everything up until the very end. My only selfish disappointment: I didn't like seeing them get old and die. I wanted the show to end before that so that their characters could live on in my mind just as they are. Sorry can't speak about them in past tense either.... I didn't think the aging of the characters was done very well either. It didn't look real.
I thought the final show was both realistically sad and happy at the same time. I loved the fact that Claire went to NY even after losing the job. I especially revered Ruth for pushing her to walk a path different than her own. I think mothers always want better for their children but I often see mothers who want their girls to live a somewhat parallel life. Like it justifies their own choices. I guess this struck a chord with me because my mother has always discouraged anything different than that which was similar to her own life path. Despite Ruth being stuck "in the 50's, no matter how you dress" she rose above and pushed Claire to do something different.
Despite how hard it was to see Nate say HORRIBLE things to Brenda about the baby, I thought it brought to life the fear and reality of parenthood and the risks.
I also really loved the fact that in the end Brenda and Ruth patched things up. They both need each other in so many ways.
I also REALLY loved Rico's decision to go on his own with his wife joining him. He's such a lovable character, you can't help but want only the best for him! What a happy ending for them both!
This show, among the other incredible HBO shows, have literally ruined tv for me!
Top notch writing, excellent characters, no holds barred. My standards have soared....It's gourmet TV. Once you have the good stuff you can't go back to the mediocre blah!!!!Everything on TV pales in comparison to the HBO shows.

Thanks for the tip on the obituaries, Laura, as I hadn't seen it. Did you see the collection of artwork that Claire did? You could click on a piece and read about the artist, etc.
I agree that HBO has ruined TV for me. I loved Six Feet Under and I think the stories flow so much better when they aren't built around commercial breaks.
Even though I know what happened, I think I will still keep an eye out for the DVDs. But I don't have the willpower to wait that long -- especially when I know the summaries on are the website!
