My dh is thinking about it, and I am nervous, wondering if anyone else is going thru this too. Duke is sending Dr.s in groups for 2 week stints. So its not that long, but nevertheless. . .words of advise/wisdom/etc.

Mine would love to but hasn't yet been asked. (He's Army so it's somewhat possible)
I say go for it- what's two weeks of his/your life compared to the lives of the people affected. It will no doubt alter his world-view, that's for sure. I'd go if there was something that I could do that would help.

Ditto to what Jenn said. My DH used to be in the Air Force, and during his last year of residency, he was able to go on a humanitarian mission to Nicaraugua. He ranks it as one of the best experiences of his residency, and probably one of the top experiences in his career so far. If your DH is interested, he should go for it!

I'd send him! A friend of ours is Army Psych & will be working for months with them. He said the need for Psych (I'm guessing that's what your DH will be doing) is great among the young and old...many of them have been pretty traumatized, if not by the disaster itself then by what they witnessed afterwards.

My husband's group is working on a plan now to send doctors. One of his partners has been in Mississippi since the day after the hurricane and we're not sure when she'll be back. I would love for dh to go, but I'm torn because we have a 2 month old who is learning new things every day and I would hate for dh to miss out on anything...but that really is a small price to pay.
