Apparently there are extremely high lead levels in several types of vinyl lunch boxes. One of the ladies on the DC Metro Mommies group that I belong to said that her kids lunch boxes were fine but HERS tested sky high. You can get the lead testing kits at any hardware store. We stock them everywhere in DC because of the lead in the water....

Nice, we've used the soft vinyl ones for a couple of years now. Looks like I'll be off finding a lead testing kit so I know whether or not I need to replace them.

Geez, I would have never thought of lead in a vinyl lunchbox. I think we have at least 5 of these sitting in our pantry that get used on a regular basis by DD and DH. Several are from drug companies and I wonder if those are among the ones tested. I'll have to check ours out.

You can usually find a lead testing kit at hardware stores. I'll bet you could find them on-line, too.

Most hardware stores have them, usually in the plumbing section. At least that's where they typically are here.

There HAS to be a way to keep food cool that doesn't include freaking LEAD.

We're talking bologna sandwiches here, not protection from radiation
