With the conversation going on in the callroom, I thought I'd ask. Has anyone been following the general trends on physician incomes/job opportunities? Are we heading for lower reimbursements/salaries right now?
I can't speak for other specialties, but for anesthesia, I know it is still dependent on the state/location of the country, medicaid reimbursement, how the pay scale is set up for the group- eat what you kill, collective pot, etc. Matt seems to be making about a little more than average for a fresh graduate. Now we could have gone to Alaska and made a heck of a lot more than we are now, but we would have defeated the purpose of being closer to family.
I know when we were in Seattle, I was amazed at how much our pediatrician billed for and would actually get from the insurance company post preferred physician and other discounts.
I haven't followed the trend too much, but it would seem like we are heading in that direction.
