FEMA Round 2

Some of you know that my brother is in NO currently doing clean-up and construction. He traveled down when told and then FEMA had him wait 3 weeks (unpaid) to get started. It was going to be lucrative though...they were going to get $250 base pay plus $2/square foot that they cleared with an estimated 100 feet/day...in other words, a good day would bring $450 or more...a bad day $250. My brother left a job making $14/hour laying tile with a construction company to come and do this. He was hoping to save up money to open a computer business (his dream).

So..he's sleeping in a tent in NO in a wal-mart parking lot and generally is working his arse off. He got a call Friday night while he was on someone's roof to come back to the 'compound' immediately, as people were deserting. Turns out, Uncle Sam has suckered all of these people into coming down here telling them it would be really lucrative and now....they have changed their minds and are only going to pay them MINIMUM WAGE!!!!!

1/2 of the workers left on the spot. My brother is completely out of money and does not have a vehicle there. He came down with 2 other groups of construction workers. He has had an offer to come and stay in a church until he gets on his feet.

For this, he cancelled his apartment, quit his job and moved all the way down to NO???

That is AWFUL. And, horribly, par for the course. Call CNN or NBC or someone --- the "untold story".

OMM! the same thing happened to a friend on another board.

They live in MS, and her hubby signed up to do clean up /construction.

He got down there, pay was half of what htey had said, they didn't have hot food but did have beer, and he left after a week because of stomach bugs they think were from the filthy portapotties.
