  • Whatcha listenin' to....

these days? We may have done this before. I am just curious and would like to know if I am missing out on anything. I am so forever into Coldplay. My kids are sick of them/me. I can't stop though! If it's not them then it is a wierd "kid" cd my dh made for the kiddos and I can only take so much! :!

    What about y'all?

most often I listen to NPR while in the car. The only kid music I can tolerate is They Might Be Giants "Here come the ABC's" and "NO" -- and even that is too much sometimes. My kids and I enjoy Sheryl Crow and the Dixie Chicks, and at home I like Fiona Apple, John Mayer, No Doubt, and a bunch of other stuff.

I know I am going to get SO much grief for this... but I am a holiday FANATIC!! I have had Christmas music going for the past few weeks around our house. Don't worry, I haven't imposed it on anyone else (besides by poor husband, who usually just rolls his eyes at me when he hears it!) - at aerobics, I have popped in the "Halloween" music for warm-ups - I'll give it a couple of weeks before I get the Christmas warm up going... .

Other than that, I am a huge country fan, so I usually just surf the country station - or I listen to one of my favorite singers, Peter Breinholt (not well known outside the west). Josh Groben also gets a lot of play time lately in our house.

Surprisingly, both my kids enjoy Garth Brooks so they ask for that a lot in the car. In addition I have to suffer through Dora and now some books on tape. I like 80s music, Norah Jones, U2 (fave), John Mayer, Bare Naked Ladies, Van Morrison, James Taylor and Rob Thomas. Lately, I have been burning CDs from my mini ipod so I have a mix in the car and at home.

The only music I have been listening to lately is Laurie Berkner (Noggin versions over and over of her 10 music video songs). My daugter loves, loves, loves them. If your toddler hasn't heard Laurie Berkner, I highly recommend it. Sure it gets a little old after you hear it everyday, multiple times a day, for months on end...

I don't know what adult music is like anymore.

Probably because we're going to the U2 concert in a couple of weeks, I can't seem to get enough of them lately. U2 and the latest Green Day CD are my favorites these days.

It's all about the rap and hip-hop music. I skip to Fifty Cent on all our mix CDs lately, but I can sometimes get into the eighties rap that's on there too. I go through Eminem phases. There are some good songs on the latest Ludacris album. Outkast is fun, their eighties stuff rocks but "Hey-ya" can always get me going in spin class.

There's too much R&B on the hip-hop radio station though, so I mostly listen to NPR in the car.

I'm also a huge oldies fan, back in Portland I used to listen to the oldies station constantly but now that we're boycotting Clear Channel I have to make do with the mix CDs my mom and dad sent me: Tommy James, Bob Dylan, James Taylor. There's some Norah Jones on there that I like too. I've always been a Paul Simon fan and I like all his stuff, including the newer albums -- there's a song on his 2000 album called "Hurricane Eye" that I never tire of.

When I turn on streaming Internet radio at work, I find that the profanity of the rap channel is a bit unprofessional, so I stick with the Beatles.

Well, I generally listen to whatever my husband has on. Right now he's on this Johnny Cash kick (which the baby LOVES oddly enough ). It's Johnny Cash all the time - everywhere. He's also playing a lot of Neil Young and Jimi Hendrix. We also seem to be listening to a lot of that Romanian pop song making the internet rounds over the last year (the kids love dancing to it). The kids are really into all of the old songs from the Muppet Show right now so I have a few of them memorized. :|

When I get to listen to what I want it's Cold Play and U2 all the way!

On the rare occasions that I'm in a car, it's NPR and BBC news. At home, I rarely have anything on. We had a closet redone into a stereo cabinet but my beloved got himself an iPod at the same time, so all of the cds are strewn about because he's been downloading them to the iPod (although he's officially out of room on the iPod now). So, I can listen to the radio (and DC radio is horrible! If it's not Infinity Broadcasting, it's Clear Channel so there's nothing new or different and I get "talked out" even from NPR and the BBC)

So- really, I listen to nothing. I don't even listen to the TV music channels. Maybe I should?

Nikolai listens to his classical music lullabies and his aquarium thingie- he likes to sing along to songs so I'm going to have to do something soon. The Washington Post just published a list of music for kids that adults will like. (the article started out with something like "there's not a dinsosaur or an Australian man in a funny suit anywhere in here."

We've been listening to Ben Lee, Susan Tedeschi, Maya Sharp, Jason Mraz and any other "bluesy" artist that we come across on XM Cafe. My alternative station I like just changed their format, so there isn't much locally I like, except for a cool station that is run by a local college that has great music and NPR (unfortunately I only get reception when I'm headed South).

                        Sue-

I've seen Susan Tedeschi like 5 times, she's fantastic. If you ever get to a chance to see her, GOOOOO. I'd even bring the kids if it's not too late.

My Black Flag cd is still on the waiting list at the library, so its XTC Go2, Tori Amos The Beekeeper, Grateful Dead American Beauty, Goldberg Variations, and Night and Day, the Cole Porter Soundbook.

In the car is a CD a gal from my weight watchers group made us all...all women artists, all girl power songs.

And can I just say it is freaking COOL to have like 5 npr and type radio stations?

Boy, I need to freshen up my music choices.

For a while it was a lot of Ray Charles because the kids liked it too. Then The Shins then Iron and Wine. I've had a Johnny Cash CD on my wishlist!

And now....drumroll....it has been Hot Cross Buns and Mary Had a Little Lamb on violin.....over and over and over and over for DD's violin lessons. We just call her Mary now -- wanna play a little Mary? Did we leave Mary in the car?

And NPR but not when the 5 yo is in the car.

Alison -- I'm cracking up at the thought of you playing rap at work. It sounds like the makings of a music video. She plays rap; coworkers look on with annoyance and disgust; then they dig the groovy beat and start dancin'. I'm picturing a sort of "Hard Knock Life" scene from Austin Powers.

If you are into folk music... I LOVE the Indigo Girls, Mindy Smith, Kate Rusby and the Sundays. I'm also on a big Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Ray Charles kick. I think Alisha Keyes is amazing as is Lauren Hill. Bob Marley, Dave Matthews, Coldplay, U2, Norah Jones, James Taylor and Sting are my steady favorites. Check out Livewire, it is a site where you can share music files/download free. I have tons of mix CDs in the care.
