I had agreed to host a SL@H party in late Jan. Unfortunately, mom had a heart attack and they were giving her just days, if that, to live so I called cancelling because well, I figured I was going to be out of state for awhile.

Then mom was fine, and I tried to reschedule but by then the house was on the market, we were doing our visits to MN and WI to choose which school, and we had to start packing.

Never did reschedule. I think she thought I was lying.

I take it as a sign that I am not supposed to do home based sales.

All of the reasons cited here are why I was so reluctant to go into direct sales. I was completely unwilling to pressure, or to make all of the annoying follow-up calls that the companies suggest. I personally hate to get those calls, so why would I do it to someone else? In my experience there were 2 kinds of consultants: those who really loved to sell, and chose this product to do it with, and those who were doing it to bring in some extra money while needing the flexibility it allows. I was definitely the latter.

I remember when the first person booked a party with me (outside of those who I'd asked to do it when I got started), I had to stop myself from saying "Really? Are you sure?".

Some folks really love them ... I'm not one of them.

It kind of irks me to feel pressured to buy stuff just so she can remain a consultant. However, she gives me her 30% discount. The thing I don't like is how they have workshops to use their tools and eat lunch and they charge you $10 bucks. I normally don't go to those when I can scrapbook at home for free.

I can live with the $10 ones since I figure that the consultant is providing food, snacks and her 'expertise' ...but I have a real problem with the $35 ones for croptoberfest, etc. My consultant raised her fee from $25-$35 because she wasn't getting enough orders. The problem (as I saw it) was that her customer base was too small. It wasn't her fault. The creative memories hub is here in st cloud and the market is saturated....

For the most part though, CM stuff is very pricey....though I think the quality is good (at least on the albums).....you can just get a lot of really neat things at Craft's Direct for 1/2 the price.

I enjoy cropping in a group...I love hearing all of the gossip ...but....now that we have the new house, I have my own cropping station/office space and I"ll be croppin' alone for awhile!

I agree, Kris. I definitely like the social aspect of scrapbooking. My neighbor and I get together often after the kids go to bed and work so when I have to pay $10, I don't attend those as much.

I agree it is pricey. I appreciate getting 30% off from her. I like CM tools and albums. For the most part, I get my stickers and papers elsewhere. It can add up to a hefty hobby if you aren't careful.
