Oh - our former babysitter was a nanny for Dave Matthews' twins in Seattle. She was in Cleveland getting a PhD in Nursing.

Same woman: her step-dad used to play with Paul Revere and the Raiders

My friend's dad went to high school with Martha Stewart. For awhile we tried to start the rumor that Martha was a slut in high school - just for fun! I'm evil, I know.

My cousin's BIL (who I know) is the cantor at the synagogue in Beverly Hills attended by Speilberg and some others. He did Sasha Speilberg's bat mitzvah last year, and it was attended by all sorts of Hollywood heavy weights (Tom Hanks was one, I know). The cantor's wife worked for Lauren Graham of Gillmore Girls fame.

My aunt and uncle met Meatloaf

    V. scary about the slit-your-throat guy ... Okay - I'm stretching here.

      Okay, here are mine.
My bil installed carpet into Air Force One.
My oldest daughter was kissed on the cheek by both Al and Tipper Gore.
Winston Churchill is a distant relative (my maiden name is Churchill).
The dress my mil wore to our wedding was made by Imelda Marcos' tailor.
An acquaintenace in my neighborhood represented the infamous John E. Robinson (the local serial killer that was stuffing women's bodies into barrels and storing them on his property or storage lockers).
      My sister met Bill Clinton.
I went to high school with a girl that played an extra in The Wedding Planner--in the first scene Jennifer Lopez touched her boobs.
I also went to high school (and ran cross country) with the niece of Dick Gephardt, who is going to run for the next Presidential election (Dem).
At one of my cross country races, Jim Ryan was present watching his daughter. He was the first guy to run a mile sub 4.
That's all I can think of for now.
      Awake is the new sleep!

My daddy shook hands with Mr. Percy Sledge (that's how he always used to tell us when we heard "When a Man Loves a Woman"). And my husband met Queen Latifah!

Oh yeah, I forgot...my dad claimed to have gone to school with "Laverne" from Laverne & Shirly. Come to find out he was just pulling my leg--the joke was on me when I told all my friends and it proved to be untrue.

A lot of my six degrees seem to go through my sister:

            - She was hit on by River Phoenix in a club many years ago (as a teen).

            - She used to date Bill Clinton's second cousin (now, that made for fun conversation when he came to our house - I liked him a lot, though). He wasn't "tight" with Bill but they saw each other from time to time at family functions.

            - One of her good friends from high school is a lit. prof. at Cornell and he's had the opportunity to "tutor" a few celebs (including I *think* Kiersten Dunst or somebody like that).

I got to get to know the wife of the assistant director of the FBI last fall (his last name is Brock). She homeschools their eight children! We were staying in the same apartment building in D.C. Our kids would all go swimming together at the pool in the building.

Our former bishop (ie congregational leader) started Monster.com and is now working for the FBI in charge of their information technology. His kids and our kids used to play together and we'd go swimming at their house about once a week. Nice family.

Other than that, I hung out with the granddaughter of a "Mormon" "celebrity" (of a sort) a couple of summers ago: She is the granddaughter of President Gorden B. Hinckley (who leads the church) and one of his sons who is also a leader (in the Quorum of the Seventies).

We had a couple over to dinner last year that turned out to be the president of a bioresearch/pharm corp (him) and one of the leaders in Mitt Romney's last gubenatorial campaign (her).

The Scottish woman who does my hair every month (whom I adore) is the neice of the man who started the Rusk hair products company (her last name is Rusk as well). She also does the hair for a few musicians including most of the members of The Gypsy Kings.

Family legend has it that my great-great-grandfather rode with the Younger gang (ie Jesse James) and that he was a riverboat gambler and a horse thief.

My old boyfriend (the one before Jon) had a good friend whose family was close to Nolan Ryan's family (think Texas Rangers).

A good friend of ours (also a homeschooling dad) who started a tech company with my husband has a brother who plays first-string for the Denver Broncos. I got to meet him at a birthday party. Nice guy - can't for the life of me remember his first name.

Jon's treated a number of minor and major celebs at the Brigham - but I wouldn't know who they were because of HIPAA . He's also worked with some heads of foreign countries but I also wouldn't know who they were because of confidentiality agreements signed.

My grandfather ( my mom's stepdad) worked with (not for - with) Ross Perot many, many years ago. My granddad couldn't stand the guy.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

            Jennifer
Who uses a machete to cut through red tape
With fingernails that shine like justice
And a voice that is dark like tinted glass

              Here's a goody:

My friend's mom had her photo taken with Castro when she was a child in Chile. Her family was deeply involved in the policital movement opposed to the person Castro was visiting, and the photograph appeared on the front page of the paper - much to the embarrasment of her parents.
