  • Nontraditonals?

Are there any other folks who are a tad bit older than the average med student/spouse?

    We're 37.

    This is our fist year.

Dh was a software developer for a bank for 8 years, keeping track of rents etc for bank properties.

    I've been a sahm since 2000.

    Hey Tracy-

Yup- we've been the oldest couple the whole way through. In fact, our close friends from residency? She was in kindergarten when I was a senior in high school. Scary, stuff my friend.

    (PS- I'm 39 and hubby is 38)

My husband is 34 and is an MS4.

Before starting med school at 31 he had given a year to the Army Reserves (interrupted undergrad), worked 2 years in quality control for a drug company, and spent 6 years getting a PhD in molecular genetics.

        I'm 30.
Married to a hematopathologist seven years out of training.

          I'm 24. Really. 24. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

We were not nontraditionals when we began but are on are way of becoming nontraditionals because of the size of his residency and the extra little PhD he's picking up on the way. (DH was 3 years older when he began medical school because he has a five year engineering degree and a masters degree.) DH will be 35 this winter and will be 38 when he is all done.

And really, I'm so o.k. with it. Really.

We weren't nontrad, DH didn't pick up a *career* per se before med school, but his two-year break between undergrad and med school puts us just a bit out of sync with other med students.

Snort! A tad? I think I was 32 when DH STARTED med school. I can't even remember what year that was...anyhoo..he's a 4th year rads resident (1 year to go ) now and I'm 41. With a two-year-old and a three-year-old. However, since we are military, we are not the oldest couple in the program. I think DH was the second or third oldest student in his med school class. There was a 50-year-old former nun in the class ahead of ours. How's that for age difference. Looking back on ou med school experience, I think we had an advantage in being older. Everyone was always at out house because we had furniture and ...food and stuff. I miss those days. Am I blogging? Sorry. I'll go back to lurking 8) .

Wow, does being 30 count as non traditional? Yikes! DH is in his 2nd yr of residency and picked up an MPH along the way.

DH is older than a couple of his instructors, and he's only a first year LOL.
There are more than a handful of first years with kids, and maybe 2 who are older.

I guess I'm the baby around here! Yippie! I'm never the youngest anything. DF is only 24 and a first year and I'm 27.

We're pretty standard age-wise: Both 32 and just dh finished training. Our non-traditional facet is that I did not go to college (long story - explained elsewhere), so when the topic comes up there is usually an akward pause in this hyper-educated community. It's usually only a topic if people are specifically talking about where they went to school, othewise people assume I'm one of the gang.

Th BF is an MS-4 turning 28 next week... after undergrad he did an MS and then worked for a year before med school. I'm 27 and have been working for the same company for 6 years, so let's just say it was a tad disturbing when we went to dinner when one of his classmate's turned 21st birthday.

Tomorrow will be the 4 year anniversary of our first date... and I think there's a possibility he might go from BF to DF sometime very soon.
