how old are you?

Gosh, I can't believe how young most of you had your kids. I still don't feel old/mature enough to even contemplate them.

I was 28 with the 1st, 29 with the 2nd (surprise!). I wanted to have my 1st before I was 30 b/c my mom had 5 miscarriages and I didn't want to wait until a "harder" time to get pregnant if I might end up having similar problems. #2 was a big, fat (if not wonderful), surprise. I would have never planned them so close together, and often I'm not sure I'll survive it. That said - they are buddies and hopefully will be for life.

Gosh, I can't believe how young most of you had your kids. I still don't feel old/mature enough to even contemplate them. Although looking at my parents, it pays off to be done early on, they were still in early 40s when I moved out.

I have friends that had them as early as 20, and friends having or adopting kids in their 40's. I myself was 25 with my first, 27, with #2, and a few months shy of 30 with #3. I'll be just under 32 when this one comes. I see pros and cons to doing it either way--you'll quickly find once you have kids that you have to develop a "whatever floats your boat" type of attitude about what is right or wrong if you want to get along with the other mommies at the playground.

That's what my mom is pushing for, but we don't have any fertility problems in my family (my mom, her sister and my cousin all got pregnant at a drop of a hat and didn't have any miscarrages as far as I know). But then again they were all done having kids by the time they were 25.

I don't want any kids just yet, but don't want to be changing diapers at 39 either (no offense Jenn). Guess I better make up my mind soon.

I'm 25. I second (and third?) that. I feel way too young to have a baby right now. When I was younger, I always thought I would be married by 22, have a baby by 24, so I would be a young grandma eventually. Now I can't even think that far ahead! I don't feel emotionally or financially ready to have a baby any time soon.

and the staying up allnight with baby thing is getting harder and harder. If we have another one I might have to hire a surrogate father.
(of course by that time we'll be making even LESS money in fellowship or postdoc)

I had my first when I was 24...I will say that with my first children, I became pregnant as soon as dh and I said "should we or shouldn't we"...For the last couple of years, my cycle has been extremely irregular (unusual for me..and sorry if TMI for the guys)...and getting pg this time took a long time. We also have no history of fertility problems in the family....

I'm 35. Met DH at 27, married at 30, had first DD at 31 and second at 33. I got pregnant the first two times at 1 month and 2 weeks off birth control. We have been trying seven months for the third. Kris, I am having the monthly experiences that you were lately. Wierd.

I think I *might* win in the "youngest person to start having children" category.

I had my first at the ripe old age of 21.

My twins came at 24. The fourth was born at 27. And, the fifth came at 30. If I kept this three year spacing up I could conceivably (pun intended - groan) have eight children (at 33, 36, and 39). I don't know that I'll do that. I'm learning that if I try to make plans they get smashed so I'm just living by the seat of my pants from here on out.
