  • The best and worst of my Christmas gifts

That waffle story is hilarious Annie, I can't believe with all the preparations it didn't dawn on him that he forgot to buy it! The cookie story is very sweet btw!
Dh and I got each other a big cabinet for the dining room, so there was nothing to actually open from him on Christmas, which was fine. I got a few other things from family that I liked, including a bracelet from my parents that has ladybugs...very cute. Next year I'm going to try to get my family (except for the kids of course) to adopt a family in lieu of getting gifts for each other. Hopefully they'll bite.

    Oooh. Annie, this sounds Gooood.

Best gift – Dh got up Christmas morning at 6:30 am, took both boys into the kitchen with him to make breakfast, closed the bedroom door, made me tea, then took ds1 to his hospital to show him around and meet some of his fellow slaves (oh, I mean interns). Other best gift was a gift card for Trader Joe’s from my mom. I love it when people get it.

Worst gift – The Ultimate Thomas Train Set. I’m sure it must seem weird that this is a worst gift. The four of us live in 700 sq ft, live in poverty. No receipt was sent with the gift. The kids love it, but we can only set up a tiny portion at a time.

Just a thought, but it would only work if you want to permanately glue down the tracks. Maybe you could get a piece of plywood and glue the tracks to it and then slide it under the bed when it's not in use?

I signed myself up with our maid service again- that is the best (because I will only need to pick up between visits) and the worst (we really can't afford it. But I'll eat mac and cheese and PBand Js if I have to)

Annie - Your waffle/pancakes sound fantastic. I never go the extra mile and make yummy toppings. DH just gets plain old butter and syrup.

Best gift: My new cell phone. I love love love it!!!

Worst: DH got the PS2 game that he has been wanting for months. Nice for him but now I have to listen to football game talk....

            Sue,

Good idea...but this set when fully assembled is 62" by 90"!

I wish I had a bed that big.

Yikes, that thing is huge! We'd be hard pressed to find a place for something like that in our house, too--sometimes extended family neglects to think about stuff like that.

My best gift is also my worst gift (in a way):

I am now the owner of an Apple Ipod Mini. It's tiny and cool (holds 4000 songs or something and weighs about as much as three credit cards). I also got the armband holder for it. Very nice.

What makes it my worst gift is that my husband is bound to commandeer it - it's just too cool a little gadget for him not to be tempted by it! He's done it in the past with other little techie gizmos he's gotten me and I can either never find them (because either he has them or he's lost them) or he breaks them. u:

What makes it the best gift is that it also functions as a calendar/date planner as well as an address book. AND it's going to make working out and losing these last fifteen pounds a whole lot more pleasant!

Best gift of mine was from my mom. She got me a periwinkle sweater I had been wanting from Kohl's AND the first season of Rockford Files on DVD......I think James Garner (think 70s version, not how he looks today) was my first celebrity crush, which endures to this day. Worst gift of mine was sadly from DH. He got me a gift basket from Bath and Bodyworks. Granted, it is a scent that I like, but I think most stuff from Bath and Bodyworks is a rip off because you pay so much for the packaging, and the last thing I need is another basket around here. DH is a great guy and has helped me a TON around here with all of the stuff we have hosted, etc., but gift-giving is not his forte, that's for sure.

I love the teapot DH gave me. We were at this great garden and gift shop, and I saw it and loved it but knew I couldn't buy it for myself so close to the holidays. So he bought it for me, and it has a strainer built in and holds two cups of tea.

I didn't get any rotten gifts. I guess the Almond Roca was less than ideal, because I ate it all up within a day!

We're exchanging most of our gifts for each other on New Year's Eve.

Oh, and the bum gift I *gave* was a pair of socks for my nephew. Not only did I give a 7 year old socks (one step up from underwear!) but they were way too small. Meh. We also didn't have anything for my husband's half-sister's step-daughters, which made me feel bad because they each had something for us.

My bum gift was a $100 gift card to Bath and Body Works from my step-mother & dad. What on earth will I spend $100 on there?? I'd much rather the $100 gift card to Lowes that dh got just be $200!

                      I'm an ungrateful wench...

I just bought MYSEFL the best gift: a dyson. DH asked if I wanted one for Christmas, and I basically threatened his life if he got me a vaccuum. He basically took that as an out to go totally lame-o on the presents for this, our first Christmas with $ of ANY kind ... So, I went to Bed, Bath & Beyond w/my 20% off coupon intending to buy myself some All Clad pans, but instead bought the vaccuum.

After vaccuuming my house, just 2 days after doing it the last time, let's just say EWWWWWW.

I think her goal was to pamper me, and it was appreciated. I used to be a total slave their stuff, but as I came to terms with our lack of funds during training, I kind of wrote off those things for myself. Now I'm just not interested anymore! I'm kind of bad about the follow-through, so I buy it and then don't use it.

Like I said - I'm an ungrateful wench! I'm glad you got good stuff, though!

                              best/worst gifts

                              OOOOOh! AHHHHHH...the dyson....
Oh, sorry, just went to dream land...

My DH got me a yarn winder and swift which is very very cool, although, since he started knitting he seems very excited to use it. Last night he wanted to try to wind some yarn that was already in a ball...kind like the ipod story. My other great gift was some mystery boots that came in the mail from a shoe store. They fit and are perfect but all parties deny responsibility. They are mega hiking boots and are wonderful, since my other babies, I mean boots, got too small after children.

The worse might be the package from my DMI. It was wrapped in birthday wrap but my birthday is in April, so I thought it was left over. When I opened it it was a strange velveteen bright red jumper like a little girl might wear, some snowflake socks and some fuzzy animal print slippers. (the slippers are OK) This was definitely all christmas stuff. Very strange.

I did go out and get me a cashmere sweater when they all went on sale. My DH says it's really a present for him...
