Congratulations!!! I don't know much about Shreveport, though I almost was sent there went I worked for AT&T - they have a factory there. I'll bet you can get a really nice house for relatively little money!

LSU-Shreveport was actually our 9th choice out of 12. And they had already rejected Russ from thier pre-lim/medicine internship year....but when the program director called Russ today and chatted with him, he was surprised to find that out...so he's going to "make some phone calls" and let us know by tomorrow evening what the deal is. The program director wants Russ to go there for his prelim year so that he knows the hospital/area etc. Ophtho requires that one year (PGY1) be done doing "general" stuff...ie transitional/family/internal medicine/general surgery before the start of residency (PGY2).

I'm excited and bummed. Bummed because I remember that Russ wasn't very impressed with Shreveport and one of the techs here at the vet school made a face at the area. Apparently it's known as a casino town with a large transient population...not my ideal setting. But I'm sure there has to be nice areas around...

I've been on realtor.com all day looking at houses. There're a few that seem nice. I googled the average vet salary and it's about 60K/year...definitely lower than what I was hoping for....but livable I suppose...and since the houses we're liking are around 200K...definitely do-able with that income. So there are pluses too.

I'm a little miffed that we don't know for sure what's happening next year...but hopefully we will soon. I WANT TO PLAN!
