Nellie, you might be on to something. I was just thinking how doing something funky and then writing a book about it would be a great way to deal with my not-quite-mid-life crisis (similar to author of Julie & Julia Project).
I always liked the romantic idea of owning a small business. A cafe would be nice -- something very cozy. Maybe with afternoon tea (casual) and crepes to go. OR a bookstore. Love that idea. Me and books everywhere. Bliss.
Sadly, I don't think running a small business is any fun and restaurants and independent bookstores are particularly risky. DH and I would like to open up something when he retires - maybe with a partner that's just starting out.
I've been writing a book for awhile. It's a murder mystery (of course). I don't think I'd ever have the guts to actually send it out, but who knows? I agree you have to give it a go. I don't want to be thinking of what could have been later in life.

"Where are we going - and what am I doing in this handbasket?"
My husband wants to brew beer when he's done with medicine. Like, own a brewery and make beer kind of beer brewing.
I'm not sure that I want our retirement funds heading to this plan, but I guess if he can learn and figure out what he really has to do to be successful, I can drag out the St. Pauli girl ensemble. (once again, supporting his career...)

Angie, I like your plan. Would love to do something like that. DH would love to run the bookstore, and while I think a full blown restaurant is a bit much, the cafe section of a bookstore would be perfect.
