I would say for us a 10. DH got his number 1 and we are so excited about not having to relocate BUT home prices here are through the roof and we won't be able to buy for a while so that stinks a bit.

8 for both of us. We were a little dissapointed that #1 passed us by...I would have loved #2--South Carolina (WARM!!) But, #3 not so shabby. Ob/gyn was super competitive this year. We are both very thankful that we matched at all.
We decided to rent. Our financial guru strongly advised against buying right now. Oh well..... I think we have already found a house. Quite an accomplishment....finding a place to let us have our four legged family members!

I think we're both 8 even though he got his #1. I get to keep my job and we're near his family (oh boy), but we can't afford a house. #2 was near my family but who knows what kind of job I'd find. He's in an ecellent program and we're finally moving out of Newark, but it still would have been nice to be home.

We'll see how I answer this in 2 years...

Hmmm- Well a freakin' 0 on match day, now after visiting, researching, and finding my home, I would say a 5. We were so, so, so sure that we would not fall out of top 3. He had more interview offers than the two others from KU who were going for Urology. (they both got their #1) We canceled a TON of interviews, and only rankied about half that he interviewed at. What morons. I also stayed out of rank list beyond the top three. "No, honey, its your rank list, you can do it! :: " Anyhow, Bozo put this above the programs in the NE due to the "Cost of Living".
          Ummm, okay.

But, really, he matched. 40% trying didn't. He met tons of re-applicants on the trail who did a pre-lim GS year and two years of Urology research to try again.

Okay enough...I am excited about getting set up in our new city! Oh, did I mention that I have a PALM TREE in my new back yard!

10 for both of us on Match Day. By 2nd year, we were both down to 3 because of burnout. By the end of residency, we were 10s again....finally able to see the light!

Well... Dh got the spot that he ranked #1, so we were happy about that! Still happy about that! We would have had to live apart for at least one year if we hadn't gotten his #1 or #2. BUT, we just got back from a week of vacation in Hawaii and we're kicking ourselves for not ranking a warmer climate higher up... Dh would have gotten to live somewhere warmer, and I would have at least gotten to VISIT somewhere warmer! C'est la vie.

At the time, I think we were both so flabbergasted that we couldn't even have picked a number. We were so ignorant of how the military worked! We had ranked "deferral" #1 on the military match list, and we thought that since a)there were more med students going into OB/Gyn than there were active duty spots and b)DH didn't ever do anything resembling an interview with the AF, we would *definitely* get a deferral. So on December 18th, when the military match happened and DH had to call a number to learn our fate, we were not even nervous! So, yeah, flabbergasted is the best description, and then disappointed that the interviews he had done up to that point were going to be all for nothing.

However, once we visited San Antonio and looked at houses, and realized we would be making more money than at a civilian program, we started to get more excited. Of the Air Force OB/Gyn programs, San Antonio was highly regarded. As DH got more into the program, I think his only regret was that he didn't get to do more surgeries, but since military dependents are skewed toward the young and fertile end of the population, there wasn't *as much* gyn stuff for residents to do, although, he did a fair amount because of the large military retiree population around San Antonio.

So, final analysis.....DH a 7, and me an 8.5. He also missed being able to get a spot based on his merits, although I think his board scores had a lot to do with the spot he *did* get, pretty much sight unseen. I loved San Antonio, but it was hard being far from family.
