  • MY LATEST THOUGHT!

As much as I love New England and more specifically, Vermont....I want to settle somewhere warm when this is over. Dh has told me that where we move and the house we buy or build is all about me. He is giving me total control.

So, my latest thoughts on where I want to live....bright, sunny, warm,(expensive)....Hawaii. Yup, I wanna live on an island. After we got done living in the caribbean for 16 months, I never thought I would say that. I have started to research it and I think I love the idea. My new favorite channel is HGTV...house hunters. I saw an episode where these people were looking to buy in Hawaii. That is what got me started on this idea. Do you know that when you're buying over there, you have to like the furniture the place comes with because its so expensive to ship in from the states.

Im thinking a vacation there is in order....that would be a good start.

Any thoughts from you well traveled people??

Ahhh, Hawaii. I agree with Alison on a preference for the wetter parts of the islands like the north shore of Kauai and the windward side of Oahu. I haven't been to the big island but my mom loves the north shore side and horseback riding on the Parker Ranch.

    Where is the hula emoticon?

My mom's brother's family lives near Honolulu. He's lived there most of his adult life and I can't see him ever leaving. One issue for them has been the public schools. Really not so good from what I understand. But that is certainly manageable.

A couple here are moving to Hawaii to take an attending job. They are packing up their 2 small kids, 3 cars, and some furniture and just going. It sounds so awesome there- there is that little thing about cost of living, but hey, you only live once!

Too late! Seriously though, I went two summers ago to "work" at a vet clinic in Kaneohe for a month...and I didn't want to leave. I've always dreamed of living on an island...and I grew up 5 miles from the Atlantic in south Florida. We went to Hawaii last summer and I think even Russ caught "the bug" though he doesn't want to admit it!!

I've seen a few Hawaii House Hunter episodes, too--it does look like a beautiful place to live. Plus you can spend lots of time on your linai (I'm sure I didn't spell that right but dh and I were struck by the number of times they made reference to the linai during the episode, at least a dozen) .

All I know is that the Army basically tells you that if you're sent to Hawaii, then you're living on Post because no one can afford to buy there.

Now I want pupus on the lanai! Can I have some of those umbrellas for a tropical drink, too?

Hawi -- that is the place on the north-ish side of the Big Island that my mom loves. I hope I can get there someday.

                    Aloha!

                    Hawaii....

We just got back TODAY from Hawaii. The weather was not in our favor, but the pictures will be all the more interesting (as far as lighting), I suppose. At least that's what I'm trying to convince myself of. They're having some serious flash flooding on Oahu and Kauai, which is really scary when you get caught in the middle of them. When I was little my dad worked in Honolulu over a stretch of about 2 years, so I got to fly over to visit him with my mom and brother a few times. It was fabulous for us kids.
And it's still as beautiful as I remember it.

Dh says that he'll quit his job wikiwiki and we could open up an ABC Store.
I'm sure we wouldn't be able to afford the house in Lanikai and the Alan Wong dinners.

One of the relaxation techniques I used during labor was picturing myself floating in the water off of Kauai. Ahhhhhh!

Ok, can I just say how relieved I am that I'm not the only dork who watches House Hunters??

My brother is there right now. He says it is georgeous!! He is even staying in a cabin with no electricity and he loves it. (by the way he's a techniphile...I don't think I spelled that right) He is in Volcano...opposite from Kona. The thing about House Hunters is they never tell you what they pay for the houses, but one Hawaii couple had sold a large home in L.A. to be able to afford Hawaii...Oh to dream

I don't even know what pupus is, but as long as I get to have it on the lanai, I'm game.
