Years 1-4, I was a stay-at-home mom. We were POOR! And, now, even though we aren't poor, I am paying off the debt we incurred (credit card) from being POOR in med school. I did odd jobs for extra money. I babysat. I did valet parking. I did website design. Any job I could get working our of my home, I did. I had one child through most of med school.

Don't have much time - but I was a mom full-time during all of medical school -start to finish. No, it is definitely NOT easy to do during that time period. But, it CAN be done - I did it (without outside employment, even).

I worked full-time through most of med school (daughter born 4th year) and then part-time after that, so I can't really answer other than to say that others have done it.
Some people have gone the HPSP route (or something similar via military) -- like Rapunzel and mommax3. If you are really interested in that, you could look through the military forum.Comment
